Just a little background info. I was banded in 3/29. As of last week, I have 4cc's in my band. I have been feeling great, and haven't had any major issues until today. This morning when I woke up, I didn't have time to make my egg, so I grabbed a piece of deli turkey breast and took one bite. Oh my, it felt like it took 5 minutes for it to make it to my stomach. I also got a horrible stabbing pain in my upper back/shoulder. I just figured it was morning restriction, and gave up on Breakfast. I didn't feel stuck (I have had it happen once on a bite of rice.) 10 minutes later, I took a sip of Water to take my achiphex, and it felt like it was sitting there like a rock in my stomach.

I didn't attempt to eat anything until lunch. Lunch went down, but again it was just a strange unsettled feeling...like if I moved the wrong way I was going to throw up. I drank water all day and things were fine. Tonight, I had a mouth full of tuna and got that horrible rock in the stomach feeling again. I am really trying not to throw up, because I don't want to damage the band. I bought pineapple juice and have been sipping it. I was just wondering if any of you more experienced bandsters could give me a word of advice. A friend of mine who has had the band for a few years thought that maybe I had a lower block...not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...the back/shoulder pain is so bad that it hurts to take a full breath of air! Thanks in advance.

It sounds as though you ate too quickly, didn't chew properly and are now stuck. The fact that you can get liquids down though is good. When I get stuck I can't even get liquids through.

Sometimes a stuck episode can last for ages. At Christmas I had about 24hrs when nothing would go down.

Usually when this happens the first thing I try is bringing the offending item back up.Although not recommended on a regular basis it shouldn't cause any harm and can offer instant relief.

The other thing that I have found helps me is sucking on crushed ice. This seems to reduce the swelling and lets the item pass through.

Yep, sounds like the turkey got stuck. It may have moved through--after I have a stuck episode, swelling increases my restriction for a good day or so.

I lack the patience for stuck episodes; I make myself throw up. It's not violent, it's just gentle regurgitation of the offending food. The quicker it gets out, for me, the less swelling I have.

It took me longer than I'd like to admit to accept that, after this happens, I really can't attempt solid foods for 24 hours or so. Fortunately, it does not happen frequently.

When I get a bad stuck episode like that my doctor's office advised I use liquid Benadryl to help with the swelling for a day or so, and I find that hot liquds are soothing - but I really have to take those slow. My doctor encourages liquids for a few days, then soft, then slowly getting back to solids. They told me this is when it is most common to cause a slip - by rushing back to solids. Give your band and stomach time to recover.

I was banded in Las Vegas, NV on 2/24/2010 by Dr. Umbach of Blossom Bariatrics and received two fills from him to total 3 cc in my band. I then moved back to Indiana and trying to find a doctor to do fills was frustrating, but found one in Louisville, KY that would take me on as a patient. I just had a fill on Thurs. 5/6/2010 of 1.5 cc and am wanting to know if I had too much added.

Since having the fill, it is painful to eat cottage cheese or anything of that consistancy...the pain is in the center of my chest where my band is. What should I do? Do I drink liquids or should I have some taken out? How long should I wait to make a decision? Help...I just don't know what to do.

I have found that if I drink something hot, that it helps to sooth the pain/tightness (like an elephant sitting on my chest), as long as I take small sips.

My last question is..Is this normal? and how long should this last? So that's about 5 questions...any and all help anyone can give would be soooo appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sharon

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
