Okay, I know I should be a little more patient about this weight loss thing, but listen to this. I went to my 1st fill appointment on Monday and my doctor just trip me the hell out. The man act like he was in such a rush. When he met with me, he was like " what can I do for you today?" I was like, " I'm hear for my 1st fill." Before I notice the man had me on the bed and quickly did my fill. He didn't take him time to talk to me or ask me about how I'm doing. He was such in a rush that before I put my top back on he was already out of the room. I had to rush and run after him to ask him how much cc's did he put in my port. To make it matters worst, I'm not even sure if the saline went in my port because I completly don't feel any difference.

I've read about other people having their fills done and mine didn't go down like that at all. To top the matter off, when I went to make another appointment the girl was like, " see you in another month." "I was like another month?" I got only 1.2 cc added to my 2.5 which I'm not even sure if thats what I have in my port. My concern is am I on the right track or am I'm being played by my doctor?

Your doctor's beside manner stinks but despite his rush I bet that the it went into your port. when the doc puts the needle in he pulls a tiny amount of the saline to make sure he's in the right place and then he pushes that plus more back in. Its done very quickly and they could probably do it in his sleep. Hope this helps.

As for the month, if you feel like you need more make your appointment in three weeks instead but you may be surprised in the next few days by the swelling and restriction you may feel.

Either way if your questions are not being answered you need to speak up. He very well may not know that you feel this way. I am to the point that I could care less how much time he spends with me though he will spend as much or as little time that he feels he needs to. The closer to your sweet spot he gets the more fact finding questions he will need to ask.

My Doc was always rushed, not quite a bad as yours tho. Then one week i was 5 min away from the office after driving over an hour when they called and said dont come he is stuck in surgery, i said i am already here and drove over and hour. They fit me in with his PA who was FABULOUS!!! Now i make all my appointments with her - she sits, she talks , asks you questions and listens to you i love her!

Does your doc have a pa working with him?

Surgeons' bedside manners sometimes are lacking. A person may be brilliant in the operating room, but lack social skills. Just like anyone else. Chances are, he expected someone else in his sphere to have educated you regarding what to expect from your fill.

I wouldn't assume that you're "being played." Very few people feel noticeable restriction from their first fill. And the month-long wait between appointments? It seems that the standard, or as close as can be considered a standard in this every-doctor-has-a-slightly-different-protocol world, is six weeks between fills. So, you come out a little ahead on that.

It would be nice if all doctors took the time to explain things like this---but they don't. Even mine, who is wonderful, didn't tell me about bandster hell, I don't think.

Luckily, I've been in this forum since well before surgery. You are, too. You know, from reading here, that restriction is rarely achieved with the first fill. So you're in a far better spot than the patients of your boorish doctor who leave the office perplexed.

I am sorry you did not have the experience you expected. But don't assume the worst.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
