Hi!

I am also in the process of getting banded, and am currently on a 6 month supervised diet. My diet is probably different from others because it really is a practice diet for life after the band.

I am to eat at least 4X per day, and having a Protein with each meal. I have to eat the protein first, then vegetables. I have to avoid eating bread, rice, and Pasta. I can't drink with meals, and have to wait at least 45 mins to an hour after I eat to drink something. I have to practice eating slowly, and chewing thoroughly (my biggest challenge! lol).

The diet is not meant to be a weight loss diet, although I should if I follow the guidelines! I am also starting an exersize program.

I don't know if this is what you wanted or not, but I hope it helps a little!

I really recommend starting by understanding how the band works and how you need to work the tool to get results. I have what I am told is a really good article about this on my blog; it's my experience working the rules of the band to achieve at maintain a normal healthy weight. You can find it at Getting the Most from My Lap Band: How I Learned to Use My Tool There is also a lot of information there that you may find educational or inspiration. Wishing you the best on your journey. I'm here to help,

Susi, even though it wasn't specifically required by my surgeon and his staff for my 3-month plan, I've been doing pretty much what I'll have to be doing post-banding (after I'm back on regular food, that is).

I haven't changed the drinking during/after meals thing yet, but otherwise my diet since the start of February has been as you describe.

And so far, so good! I can't wait to see what my weight is next week --- I haven't weighed since my last appointment on 04/07, but I think I'm down another 10# or so.

It's great because by the time I get banded, I'll already have made a decent dent in my weight, and hopefully I'll have developed some of the habits I'll need to make the band work for me.

If you're able to stick with it, then I think it's an awesome idea! I'm really good at sticking with diets for a few months at a time, but not for the long haul. So now, just about the time that my willpower usually gives out on me ---- I'll be getting a tool to help me make it ALL the way!

Read the article posted by Gloria. I even highlighted it, copy, pasted it into a Word Doc. and printed it out! It's on my frig. and I read it periodically when opening the door! Best wishes!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
