Terrible itching from binder

Recommended Posts

I have yet to read about anyone else having to wear a binder around your waist post op but my skin was itching so badly last night, it woke me up. I really like the support the binder gives me but I felt like I was going insane with the itchiness! I even took a Benadryl which helped me sleep, not so much for itchiness. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem.

Goal wt: to take it one day at a time and do what I'm told and see where it takes me!

I haven't seen anyone speak of a binder, but it would have been nice to have when moving around. If the itching is from the actual binder material then line it with a towel or put it over a thin tshirt. If its your incisions...its just the process (sorry).

Never been made aware to wear one. What kind of binder or Spanx - as I am thinking this might help me?

Check with your doctor if you're not sure, but in general, binders are a comfort measure, and can be removed, at least periodically, to increase your comfort.

It sounds as though yours does give you good support and comfort---but I wonder whether, during the hours when you're not up and around, it would be okay to give your skin a break from it.

I'd give the doc a call.

I too had alot of itching from my binder and even broke out in a terrible rash that has finally cleared. I wonder if I may of had a reaction to the surgical scrub they used , too. I recommend wearing one, it does support your abd muscles. Maybe wear over your shirt or wash without detergent. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
