Confused About What to Eat

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm 8 weeks along and am a bit confused about what I should be eating and how much. I asked my OB for recommendations on a nutritionist as nobody seems to know all that much about pregnancy with the lap band, but so far, they haven't been able to direct me to any nutritionists who seem to have good info on lap band pregnancies. What do you other pregnant lap banders eat on an average day? Any tips? I suspect I've been mentally using the pregnancy as an excuse to stray pretty far from the plan and so far, I've gained more than I think I should. I'd like to get things under control and keep them that way for the duration. I haven't had any unfill yet - but I figure at some point, it's likely I'll need one...

Pregnancy isnt so difficult to sustain for us human's, they proceed well in all sorts of circumstances and nutritional conditions.

You really only need 200 or 300 extra calories (healthy ones) in your last trimester if you're a normal weight person. For me, in my last pregnancy, I was 80lb overweight, my doctor didnt want me to gain ANYTHING. So I ate healthy, but restricted and I had a bouncing 8lb baby girl - I had no band, but I did Weight Watchers, 27 points per day.

If you're banded, its a bit like dieting in pregnancy, same as what my doctor wanted me to do. I'd try for 1400 or 1500 healthy calories every single day, do not waste one morsel of food with unhealthy choices. Like he pointed out, your body has the energy stores, its your job to provide the nutrition. Most people that can eat normally and dont have bands make up those calories in crap your body doesnt need anyway, you're not really at a major disadvantage. Take your Vitamin supplement religiously!

You might want to take one or two simple measures like a glass of milk a day and a Protein shake a day as well as your healthy food. If you're still overweight, you dont HAVE to gain weight. You might, its hard not to, but you dont have to meet some statistical ideal just for the sake of it.

You know, I have been researching this for a while since I hope to become pregnant soon. If you google something like pregnancy diet meal plan, there are some wonderful ideas for things to eat during pregnancy. On average, I read to sustain a healthy pregnancy one only needs to consume 300 more calories per day.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

I still have quite a bit more to lose... banded June 20, 2008, lost 93 pounds and FINALLY/BARELY in One-Derland! 2 weeks post op from total knee replacement and trying to get back on track! It's a life-time commitment, huh! Again, Congrats!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
