I was wondering if anyone has made an appointment with a DR in Mexica from one of the sites on the computer. If so, can someone give me advice on how I will know it's a real company. I wanted to go with either DR Almana, DR Carvala or DR. Huacuz. Any suggestions on which website will direct me to really getting a surgery done. Or can you guys tell me how you found a DR in mexico.

thanks.... Tiffany

You guys are lucky in that if you search this site you will find a lot of info on the various docs in business, and people's experiences with them.

Here in Australia, I asked my general practitioner for a referral to a lapband surgeon. He looked it up on the computer. I didnt like my surgeon's name (Gary Crosthwaite). It sounded old and crotchety, not friendly and helpful. I got a referral to another surgeon, based on that, lol. Couldnt get into him for months, so went to the orginal surgeon. He was very nice, very considered, offered a balanced opinion on my choices, so I was happy.

I didn't consider Mexico for my surgery so can't speak to surgeons there. There is a wealth of information on this site about surgeons in Mexico though that you should be able to find pretty readily.

My own experience was that my primary care physician actually recommended lap band to me and also recommended my surgeon who he had many referrals to in the past so is very familar with. There was definitely a comfort level in going with somebody that my long-term PCP was familar and comfortable with.

I also chose a local surgeon, so I have no perspective on Mexiico. As you are researching surgeon, you may also want to make sure to thoroughly research how you will handle your aftercare. You probably already know this, but there is a lot more to this than the surgery itself. Good luck!

I went to several doc's before picking the one I did. I thought about going to Mexico and tg I didn't because finding someone to fill the bands in my area that they didn't do the surgery was impossible

Thanks you for your input. I know of some great surgeons here in the US but I do not even have insurance. The two insurance companies that are offered to me in Florida deny me because I weigh too much except for on plan that would only pay $50 on any of my procedures. (Which by the way I thought it was a new law that they couldn't deny you but they did.) So with that said in order for me to get the surgery and be able to pay for it I am going abroad.

I hope you are all doing well with your surgery however!.. Thanks!

I completely understand your dilemma.I was also self-pay. I am not trying to talk you out of MX.

I would encourage you to factor in the "total cost" of your band. By that I mean, also research where you will do your fills, what support, nutition, and exercise resources you have access. You may want to factor in those costs as well.

You should also consider how you will handle any complication just in case.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
