Is there anyone here around my age and weight that is thinking about the surgery or has had it and if so, how are things going?

Is there anyone here around my age and weight that is thinking about the surgery or has had it and if so, how are things going?

I was 250 and almost 58. Had my surgery April 7 and have lost 23 on the preop and 9 pounds since surgery. Doing great and looking forward to shirnking a bit more every day! First time in my life I was not hungry constantly. Due for my first fill next week so I am on my way.

I would recommend it for anyone who is serious about wanting to lose weight. I was able to diet and lose, but always gained it back, and more. I am hoping this will turn that around!

I'm 59 and 300 pounds and can't wait to get my band. I just had my surgery postponed from May 6th to June 3rd. I was so heart broken, after doing 10 days of liquids, but I'll live and June will be here in no time at all. Do the reseach and make sure it's the surgery for you.

i will be 55 in december. Had my surgery on March 16. I'm down 35 lbs. and have my first fill on May 6. i always wondered about having the surgery at my age, but i'm so glad i did. People say i look younger than I really am. I started at 265 and the 35 has already made a difference. I'll just keep on workin at it until I get where I want to be - 155 lbs. Good luck, your never too old!

I am 45 and just had my surgery 8 weeks ago. I started at 350 and am already down 35 pounds. The day of my surgery, my physician did 8 Lapbands. All of us were over 300lbs. I was the youngest. My only regret was not doing this forever ago. I hope you are successful!!! Good Luck!!!

Thanks everyone for all the replies. I still haven't discussed this with my husband. I wanted as much information as I could get before having a talk with him. Good luck to you all.

Well, I'm not a woman, but I am 58 and just got my referral. Will be getting mine at the Naval Hospital, I think. I am so looking forward to this. I have tried everything, but my friends, who have had this done, are doing fantastic and keep asking me when I am getting mine. I can't wait.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
