Looking for SE Wisconsinites for support

Recommended Posts

I am 37 years old and will be banded this summer.

I am looking for others "in the area" who would be interested in getting together in person once a month or so to chat about our experiences and offer support. I know I can't be the only one scared to death about this procedure and how my life is going to change. I can only imagine what I will be feeling like post surgery when dealing with this (my husband and children, not having a weight problem can't relate).

I am in West Bend but consider the whole Metro Milwaukee area to be "in the area". I don't think twice about driving an hour in any direction.

Having people in various stages of weight loss with the help of the band would be ideal.

I am having my band placed through Froedtert. So far I love their program but feel their support group lacks something. They meet monthly and the room is full of only those who have had the RNY surgery. I'd love to chat with others who have not yet had the surgery, have recently had surgery and those who have had it some time ago - and those who have been banded.

Is anyone interested??

I was banded in Milwaukee May 12, Dr. Chua. I live on Milwaukee's south side. I am male, 61, single, and determined to lose at least 100 pounds and keep it off. I did the Lap Band because I have seen the co-morbidities creep into my life--sleep apnea, worsened asthma, gout, heart risk, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, etc. I have six children and would like to stick around to see how they do. Plus I am sick of being a whale. Up and down all my life, but always a little more weight gained than lost. Now I sincerely hope I will never see 300 again (I am now 297, after losing about 10). Anyway, a once per month meeting in Milwaukee somewhere would be lovely, if we can get critical mass. I would like to benefit from veteran lap banders and over time I would hope to be supportive to others.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
