Not Hungry but want to chew!

Recommended Posts

Good Morning all...I had surgery on 4/28/10. I'm doing well with the Protein Shakes, etc. I don't find myself hungry at all when I cook for my husband and kids, but the desire to chew or taste something other than jell-o, broth and Protein shakes is driving me crazy! From poking around at some other posts on the board, I see that I am not alone, but it is so bizarre! I wish there was SOMETHING you could add to your menu just to make it exciting. LOL Good luck to all of you who are considering, just starting out, or band veterans!

I know how you feel sue! I went as far as to chew on celery just for the 'crunch' and spit it out! Old habits die hard. I also feigned for meat- of any type! First few days/weeks were difficult mentally even though I wasn't hungry either. I am not a sweet eater- I have always hated sweets, chocolate, fruit, you name it. My issue was/is real food (in high quantity!) . So for me the sweet flavors of all things liquid in the first phase was torture. I'm sure the sacrifice is worth it tho! At least eventually we can eat normal again with a faster satiated feeling. Best of luck!

Hang in there Sue, I know what you're going through and empathize. I was banded 4/15 and am not quite three weeks into my six week full liquid diet phase. I'm also bored with the nutrition choices and just keep reminding myself that this is good training for learning to eat to live rather than the other way around. It's a constant reminder to me of just how much a part of my life food has been for a very long time.

I was banded on 4-23-10 and I feel the same way. I have found chewing a piece of sugar free gum helps. BORED with the diet and I have to make myself eat when I'm supposed too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
