Post Op liquid diet ideas?????

Recommended Posts

I had my band placed on April 30. I know that I have no band restriction and I'm not too hungry and am doing ok with Soup and Jello. My doctor has me on a liquid diet for 2 weeks post op then mushies for the following 2 weeks. I'm wanting to know what all is considered a "liquid" diet? I'm ok with Soup but i'm afraid it will get pretty old by next week. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also - did anyone else get cold sores after surgery? They all just appeared inside my mouth as of yesterday. I never got them before and I was just curious to see if it's related to surgery.....

It is not exciting, but I was fairly routine during the liquid phase. I would have a yogurt smoothie for Breakfast (Fusion) and then an Ensure High Protein chocolate shake for lunch (this is the best of all the Protein Shakes I have had, but also the highest in calories, so I had only once a day pre op, but post op, when it is hard to get in as many calories, I really enjoyed it..it is filing and tastes delicious!). I usually had one sugar free carnation instant breakfast a day. I also had Soup a lot, between chicken broth, vegetable soup broth, and Tomato basil soup (DELISH but very high in cals)...when i didn't feel full, i had Isopure pre made juice drinks that have no carbs but a ton of protein. they are easy to get down and you can get them at GNC. I would recommend the yogurt smoothies and ensure, and hopefully maybe if you switch up the types of soup it might help. Also, sugar free popsicles were a huge lifesaver!!

Good luck! I had 10 days of liquids and start the mushies tomorrow. You can do it!

Thanks for the ideas! I'm gonna go to GNC tomorrow. The funny thing is that I would LOVE to have a bowl of cottage cheese right now. I've been craving cottage cheese for some reason.

The next 12 days will be hard. Once i'm able to do the mushies, all will be better for me. I'm counting down the days until I can have that lowfat serving of cottage cheese!

I do know of someone who liquified cottage cheese in the blender...not sure how it turned out or if it was truly liquified, but perhaps something you might want to try.

I put cottage cheese in the blender and ate it with Tomato Soup. Sounds gross but it is so good. I also blended black Beans and salsa then added fat free sour cream. It was really good.

My doc told me that if it could be sucked through my teeth it counted as liquid...

I blended Bean with Bacon Soup and sprinkled some cheese on it. OMG it was sooo good. I used yogurt and pudding as well.

I was told that if you can get it through a straw, its a liquid.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
