How often do you "PB" or get something stuck?

I am finally to a point that I feel truly restricted, but I have also started "PB"ing quite a bit. I know its a learning process as to what I can eat and how much but how do you know if things are getting stuck too much? I don't want to be in danger of slippage, but I also don't want to stay on mushies forever because they are easier to over-eat with.

Once you PB, do you go back to liquids or mushies for a while or do you just continue eating normal food?

I had told my fill doctor that I had done it 3 times in the 3 weeks since I had seen him last. I commented that it "wasn't that often" and he said it was...so once a week is too much?

I had (and am still having) the same issues with overestimating bites, portions, etc...it's my stupid head playing games with me! You'll get over it :thumbup:

I can go for several months without being stuck, then can be stuck several times in a week. It just depends on my stress level, restriction, what I'm eating, etc. I don't PB often, maybe once every few months, but I do get that stuck feeling - have learned to stop immediately when I feel it and try to walk it off.

If you are able to get mushies down, etc., chances are you are not too tight, just not eating slow enough, chewing well enough, or picking foods that you can't tolerate. (I'm guilty of all these at times.)

When I've had a stuck episode that resuts in a PB and can tell I'm swollen, my doc's office advises liquid Benadryl for a few days to help with the swelling. They also suggest liquids for a couple of days, then soft foods, then slowly returning to solids. They say rushing back to solids is more likely to cause a slip than the PBing.

I told my doc I occasionally get stuck and have an issue, but it is usually operator error, as much as I hate to admit it. He said that's usually the way it goes and pretty normal.

Thanks Bam Bam for all of your good advice and wisdom. I have only been stuck once in 6 months. I have had a couple times where it really hurts but I'm over it in less than a minute. One time I ate chips at a mexican restaurant (yay cinco de mayo) and it was a nightmare for about 20 minutes. I have never pb'd. Now that I have really good restriction, I take small bites and make sure everything is completely chewed before swallowing. I then wait about 2 to 3 minutes before taking another bite to make sure that it's going thru okay. I do not want another one of those 20 minute episodes. I am now losing about 5 lbs a week with this restriction and the exercise....

Ive gotten stuck maybe 2 times. Have been banded for about 3 months. The first stuck episode lasted about 10 to 15 minutes...it was horrible, but I did not PB. Then Ive felt stuck maybe 1 or 2 other times..minor indicators to stop eating...because Ive eaten too fast. Havent PB'd ever yet. Dont want to:crying:....scared to swell or feel sick!!! Have only had 1 fill and go for my second one next week. Great post! Serves as a reminder to eat slow and chew chew chew. Lately Ive been forgetting that.

Thank you all for your answers, they have really helped. I did not PB or get anything stuck until this last fill. I have no problem with mushies, so I have pinpointed the problem at not taking my time and not chewing enough. I find that when people try to talk to me when I am eating I reflexively swallow too soon. I also have the bad habit of grabbing a bite or two from the fridge and seem to get stuck that way as well. I am fine as long as I sit down and take my time, preferably alone for now - lol

My DO NOT eat list (so far):

bread

slippery shrimp

dry meat

scrambled eggs (not sure why)

sugar snap peas

Favorite Protein source:

cup of coffee with 2 scoops of Walmart's vanilla Protein powder whisked in. Amounts to 52 or 54 grams of Protein and really satisfies for morning time (270 cal)

I can only echo what Bambam has said. For me stuck = pb, the two go together, and its always operator error. It can be months and then suddenly twice in two days - and for me being female, that's often associated with rogue tightness that only sometimes occurs for me in the week before my period.

Its always operator error when it happens. I know the kinds of foods that are triggers for me, I know that it's likely if I'm really hungry (I eat faster) etc. But sometimes I do those things anyway and sometimes it results in pbing.

I wouldnt call weekly "that" often but that regular would make me think I needed to review my eating habits. Daily would definitely make me think I was too tight.

But whilst I dont get stuck often without an accompanying pb, I do get what I call a feeling of "unease" several times in a week. It can come with eating slightly too fast, eating slightly too much, eating a difficult food. It doesnt hurt or cause ANY symptoms except that I'm aware my stomach isnt liking it. Its difficult to explain, more of an instinct than a feeling. I actually hate it more than being stuck. Yet I couldnt say there'd actually been an incident of any kind.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
