Had surgery Friday April 30th and I am doing awesome. Only had to take 2 pain pills the day of surgery. None on Saturday or today. No pain, not hungry, but.....My voice is crazy! I guess from the tube down my throat for surgery? I can just barely talk. The majority of my voice is gone, and I have to clear my throat all the time just to get a whisper of a word out. Of course my husband is over-joyed! ha ha, and my mom says it sounds sexy.....thanks mom for trying to make me feel better.

Anyone have trouble post-op with their voice? I know that there are much worse things after lapband surgery to worry about, but it is really annoying!

Thanks!!

Warmly,

Leslie

I haven't had my surgery yet, so I don't know what will happen to my voice. I'm sure it will get better soon!

I had my surgery on April 30 too! Yay us!!

I haven't had issues with my voice, but since surger have gotten a few cold sores on my tounge and cheeks. It's weird. Not sure if it has anything to do with the surgery or not??

We should become band buddies since we have the same date! I've been having incision pain but am limiting my lortab intake. I'm going to just do tylenol tomorrow so I can drive and feel like the living again.

How is the liquid diet going? I'm not hungry but do think about food a lot. I'm ready for the mushie stage!

I had my surgery 2.5weeks ago and a few days after surgery I had a small infection & really irritated & painful glands. Its due to the 'trauma' of intubation (tube down the throat) & my PCP told me a little irritation, hoarse or loss of voice is normal & can last anywhere from a day to 30days following intubation! Mine felt better by week 2. Gargle warm salt Water to Detour any bacteria growth & drink warm liquids like tea. The profalacic antibiotics you receive during surgery ward off colds but about week later they wear off and you're subject to colds & throat infections to an already irritated throat, so it doesn't hurt to take a little Vitamin C!

Feel better & congrats on the band!

I had my surgery on the 28th and my voice has been up and down, a small discomfort but I didn’t want to talk much any way.

I’m glad I was out when they put the tube in, I’d probably still be fighting them.

Hi, I appreciate you posted this. My surgery was Sept 20th, and I've noticed that my voice turned quite hoarse a few days ago. When I was in the hospital and one day back home it was fine. will try the gargling and will drink more hot fluids. This has been my only nagging issue post-op, so I should be grateful. :-)

I was banded August 31st and the throat pain from the tube was a problem for me for 2 days.Drink warm broth and if you can, sleep with a scarf over your mouth to recirculate the warm air so your throat doesn't get worse. You can also gargle with warm salt Water but be careful-stop if it makes you gag. There is a spray out on the market that has a numbing medicine in it -I think Chloreseptic makes it and you can buy this at Walmart.Good luck to you!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
