air travel and loss of restriction

Recommended Posts

i went on holiday on the 12th april this year, when i got to the resort i was fine and still had an adequate amount of restriction then 12 days later i flew home again, since getting home i found that i had actually gained 4 pounds but to my amazement with in 3 days of constantly needing to pee i had lost the 4 pounds BUT having lost the 4 pounds i had gained which i put down to Fluid retention because of the holiday, the heat, and the flight. i have now got no restriction, i can eat anything and not get stuck, even more worrying i can eat alot more than i should be eating and get very hungry. before i rarely felt hungry and had to be reminded that i hadnt eaten for 6 hours, now im lucky if i go 3 hours between meals with out feeling like i could eat a horse. the wuestion i have is can air travel make you loose fluid in your band i know that sometimes it can make your band tighten if you have small air bubbles in it, but cant find anything about loss of restriction after a flight. has anyone got any info they could pass on to me regarding this. im so frustrated i have lost 65lb now since the 27th nov09 when i had my op and worried that my weight will grow again. i am however going for a fill on wednesday but find the loss of restriction so confusing. thanks flo

well i have been today and seen my fill nurse, my band hasnt popped or slipped opr anthing bad, she did manage to put .4ml(cc) into my band she did try .5 but i think the fact i nearly puked on her made her draw some back lol. so she also weighed me and i have lost 5 stone from my heaviest weight which is 70lbs and from when i had my op done i have lost 42lb since the 27th nov 09. so i am really happy about that, i have dropped form a size 28-30 to just not quite comfy in a 20 now they fasten but i cant sit down yet lol.

never in a million years would i ever have thought i would loose 5 stone.

Hi Heidi,

I travel for work and fly just about every single week. I have never had an issue with my band - no tightness and no loss of restriction. Hope this helps!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
