Travel and Professional Meeting Two Weeks post op

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone - Surgery is scheduled for May 20th. June 2-5 I have to attend a meeting in VA (I live in CO). It's at a resort, meals provided and a small group (less than 20). I have already told the group planner that I will have special dietary needs. My question to everyone is what exactly should I tell them to fix for lunch and dinner? My doctor indicates I can expect to be on a soft food diet.

Thanks for any suggestions you can provide.

M

You should not have any problems 2 week postop so I would just suggest high Protein and what you like. You won't be restricted yet from your band but I still tried to eat the band diet.

So some of my choices, scrambled eggs, i would deconstruct the burrito/ etc as bread is not my friend or really dry meat otherwise i did fine until I reached restriction after my 4th fill and oh my, I now need to chew and eating slowly or else.

Other things that were easy for me salads, tuna salad, chicken salad (not dry), meatloaf, etc hummus and the other slider foods such as Soup. Depending on your sensitivity, the big items that some of have trouble with are bread, dry meat, Pasta and rice as they tend to make dams versus slide thru as other things do.

Enjoy the conference and make sure you stay hydrated, exercise and rest. I still periodically wanted a nap at two weeks but I went back to work after 4 days.

It really depends on your doctor's restrictions. At two weeks, I was on soft Proteins only. I would not likely have had any difficulty with "regular" foods, in terms of getting stuck---but they were completely contrary to my doctor's plan.

There are as many postop eating plans, it seems, as there are doctors/nutritionists. I'd give your doctor a call to see what his/her postop "rules" are.

It's great that you're planning ahead--and that the venue seems very receptive to meeting your needs!

(It might be a good idea to pack a pouch of Inspire Protein powder or something similar; I suggest Inspire not only because it tastes better than anything I've tried, but also because (a) it packs easily, and ( it dissolves easily in just 4 oz. water---you won't need a blender or shaker cup, or anything special at all.)

Thanks Betsy - will be talking with nutritionist on Tuesday so thought I would ask for advice and then share the suggestions with the nutritionist so she can say yay or nay! I also ordered some of the Protein powder you suggested. I travel a great deal in my job so the single serving packets could be perfect. I am hoping they taste as good as I've heard. I have been drinking the costco Premium Protein shakes - they are pretty good and you can't beat the value (low cal, low carb and high protein) but you can't take those on the plane!

I also enjoy reading your posts.

I had to travel for work 4 weeks after my surgery. I packed my shaker bottle and Protein powder. I had a lot of Soup and egg whites/cheese. Also, yogurt was aplenty at the Breakfast spread at the conference.

I urge you to call your surgeon and ask advice regarding your menu for these days. They may give you some great tips, as well as telling you what you should eat vs. not eat.

Thanks Sawyer - Appreciate your comments. I will be talking with my surgeon's nutritionist on Tuesday. Since my trip is two weeks out it will be different than what you experienced traveling 4 weeks out and I want to plan ahead so I will be prepared. Since the meeting is small, it isn't the typical conference spread - all of the meals are served rather than buffet style. M

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
