What is the risk of a round of golf?

Recommended Posts

This may qualify as one of the most selfish, if not silliest questions on this board, but it's one I need to ask. I just had my Lap-Band® surgery 3 days ago and frankly I feel pretty good. Much better than I expected really. Anyway, I know it's very early but I have hopes for a relatively quick recovery. One other part of my life that is important (at least to me anyway) is a passion for the game of golf. I truly love the game and the friends with whom I share the game. In just 5 weeks time I have a trip to Pinehurst (a kinda golf Mecca) with a group of friends where we are scheduled to play just 18 holes a day for 3 days using motorized golf carts (not walking carrying any golf bags so fairly low stress). The way I feel right now I feel like I'll be good to go in 5 weeks, but I certainly don't want to take any stupid risks. For those of you who have lived through the first few months, do you think I have a good chance to play in 5 weeks or is it a dumb move to even try? I'm 52 years old and have my first post-op follow-up next Friday, so of course I'll discuss it with my surgeon, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has a similar experience post-op either with golf or any other activity. Thanks!

I would think that golf involves the core muscles to the point that it would not be a wise thing.

I think in 5 weeks you will be ok. After your first post op appointment & fill you will know if your port is secure. I would take it easy until then. Any big golf swing might disrupt your port early on. I was told at my 4 week post op appointment to return to all my normal activities.

I hope all goes well for you!

At five weeks, I was cleared for all exercise with no restrictions.

Check with your doctor, but I bet you will be given a green light.

All good stuff. Thanks guys.

I just had my surgery on Wednesday and my biggest complaint is that I've been pretty hungry on just broth and popsicles. Today I bought some of the high Protein chocolate flavored Boost drinks and it seemed to hit the spot. I think I should drink it slower, but I finally feel like I'm not hungry. The hard part was walking through the market smelling and looking at all my old favorites. It's hard to take now, but I know it will get better!

It really does get better---before too long, you'll be amazed how food really does start taking a back seat in life.

5 Weeks should be no problem...I was cleared from my doctor to go back to work with no restrictions....I lift heavy packages all day long..I am a UPS driver on a industrial route lifting up to 150 lbs. Moving and twisting all different ways...so you should be fine after 5 weeks....justcheck with doc first...good luck!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
