Stress & Band Question...

Recommended Posts

Well I posted about 2 months ago about having what felt like was indigestion or really bad heart burn. Someone suggested it may be h-phylori...and I remember being diagnosed with it before the band. So I went that route first...got my 14-day round of anti-biotics, have had to wait 6 weeks and got tested last Friday.

The anti-biotics relieved the indigestion/heart burn feeling. However, right after completing it......I had the pain again. It seems to only be right where my band is. It feels like a burning sensation and if its really bad...it almost feels like I can't breathe. But then it goes away, w/ no meds for indigestion......I then realized, its mainly happening on empty stomach and when I'm feeling really stressed. The last two months have been the most stressful time for me...and it comes and goes.

Is it possible that when I get stressed, the band is reacting this way?

Anyone else have this? I just want to find out...I should find out my test results for the h-phylori today, but if its gone...then what is my stomach issue coming from?

Hi:

I also find that when I get really stressed at work, I can feel the band tight on my stomach (an believe me, I've only had one fill and it's NOT tight). I also end up with a lot of gas which takes a day to pass. I checked with my doctor's office thinking I did something wrong and they said that stress can cause the gas. If you can pass the gas by burping it (more like Belching it) up great, if not, you have to wait for it to pass the other way. I try not to stress too much, but it happens. I end up sleeping on my stomach (like a baby with collic) in hopes that that helps!

What does your surgeon's office say? I would check with them.

Well I decided, since I haven't had a fill since Feb 4th....because of making sure the h-pylori was gone. To schedule a barium swallow...so I go in on May 18 for that, if everything looks good, then I'll get another fill and talk to them then to see if this is just stress...

Cause I can't figure out why I'm having this heartburn feeling...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
