Okay... its a sensitive subject.

I started on my liquid diet Saturday.. 4 days ago. I have had nothing to chew, only things that I could put through a straw.

I have not had a bm since Friday. Is that normal? Is it because there is not solid waste? I have been peeing like a waterfall, but thats it.

Sorry for the content. I cant be the only one.

You aren't. This isn't the first thread so don't sweat it!

I got constipated on the liquid phase. Go figure, but it happens. Try glycerin suppositories. Is this your pre-op liquid diet? If so, drink some Fiber. If you are banded, be careful what goes down. I was much more comfortable taking charge of things from the other end. Sorry, I can't remember if you are banded yet...memory is getting worse by the week...huh? Who? Oh...number 2...:D

It may be that there is simply nothing there to get rid of, but if you feel like you need to go and can't then try some warm apple or pear juice, it works wonders. ~Mandy

Shari Lou, only had to do a liquid diet for 1 day before my surgery, and my doctor made me take Milk Of Magnesia the day before my surgery. Afterwards, it took me 11 days to go.

Try some Milk Of Magnesia if you are concerned.

Thanks for posting such a sensitive topic. I will be getting my band in Jan and I want to know everything up front. I have to do a pre-op diet, so I am now trying out Protein Shakes, which I found some that I absolutely love so far...though I am using 1% milk, need to get it down to Non-Fat. I am using Allthewhey.com's Protein drinks...25grams in one drink!!! I've noticed a change so far in just my trying out different drinks with my bm. But, I am glad to hear it's normal and some remedies like warm apple juice...apple juice just normal works for me...so I wonder what warming it up will be like :paranoid

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
