Any nightshift workers that are banded??

Recommended Posts

Ok. so I work night shift from 7pm to 7 am. I have had some issues with eating. Most of the time, when I am off, I can't eat till 7pm or later. Anyone else have issues like these? My doctor thought it was too tight, but the day before I ate a whole jimmy johns sandwich, so I think it is just my body is irregular.. Any thoughts

I am a night shifter as well. I just was banded on the 28th and have not yet returned to work. Before surgery I ate at 5 pm 2-3 am and 5 am. give or take. I am an er nurse so it didn't always work perfectly. When I switched back to sleeping at night I would eat at 5 am and then force myself up by 1 so I could eat lunch and dinner by 6 pm. I hope that makes sense. I work sun through tues or wed depending on the week so switching is easier than if I worked every other day. I will let you know if this works now that I am banded. Email me if you like at rnvegas@hotmail.com

Hey coolness I am a RN too. The only issue is you have to wait at least 3 hours to eat after waking up. So that is a thought. Hope everything is going well.

I work night shift. Im not banded yet so id like to know what the difference is fomr a day shift.

I know youre body pretty much shuts down at night to replenish itself but i eat the same as i do on a day shift... small meals high in Protein low in fat.. How does that change with the band? Would you not eat the same way? I have to ask my nurse when i go for the surgery

I am a respiratory therapist and work night shift also, I don't have a problem switching from day shift to night shift. I just eat when I am hungry and when I have a free second. I had surgery on April 13th and I have not had my first fill yet.

What time do you wake up when you are off work? I try to function as a day shifter on my days off. I usually have a light Breakfast, bigger lunch, then a light dinner with some yogurt, cheese or Peanut Butter in between for a snack.< /p>

I find that for me the eating is about the same as someone on day shift- still 3 meals a day with the larger one being at work. I work 11p-9a as a nurse so I find I need more fuel at night. Doesn't make sense to eat my largest meal after 9am for me because by noon I'm asleep & not buring any calories. (This took some getting use to though!) My issue would be excercise while working nocs. I do walk & burn some calories at work but working 10-12hr shifts I find it really difficult to get an hour or 2 (2 sessions) of work out in. By the end of the day (or begining technically) I'm pretty pooped. I manage to walk 5 laps at the park but I must do this before going home or else I won't do it! And on off days I usually have a hard time staying on regular time. 24hr fitness is the only gym with hours I can work with but frankly I hate being the only person there in the 2-digit pants sizes! =/ But so far I've been successful on the scales so I won't fix what isn't broken!

I'm a graveyard shift worker, had sugery last August. I have found that I'm not able to eat in the mornings until about 9am even on days when I'm not working. I tend then not to be able to eat any big meal at all until the evening time. As my doctor put it to me, we don't eat or drink during the time we sleep and whatever shift you work, so your body adjusts to eating around your sleep times (band is tighter during the time you dont eat or drink and when you first get up). So if you work graveyard then you usually won't be able to eat much when you first get up and the more Fluid you have in you the easier it is to eat!

I am also a 7p-7a RN. I make my eating schedule from 9am-9am (hope that makes sense). My main meal is ususally at 1 am. I eat something small around 5 pm, a snack at 10pm, another at 5am. If I am starving I may eat something when I get home and then go to bed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
