PB-ing and Your Throat

Recommended Posts

Howdy, all. Without going into too much detail, I have sound that productive burping causes stuff to collect in the pits of my tonsils. Have any of you experienced this tonsil stone problem? Anyway, I went after a nasty set of tonsil stones with my toothbrush (yeah, I know - ewww!) and now my poor tonsils are irritated and swollen. This happened once last week as well. I got tightened a few weeks ago and am still finding out which foods I can no longer tolerate. Does anyone else have experience with this nastiness?

I have had that problem even before the band and pbing! I had an ENT that said he would take my tonsils out for me but I have heard of the horrible pain of getting your tonsils out as an adult and just can't convince myself that it is something I absolutely have to do. It actually is important to get the yuck out but you must be really careful because it is an area that will get irritated easily. I did hear that you can gargle to get some of it cleaned out if you do it right away after pbing...you may try that. Other than that I do not have any other advice for you! Hang in there!

It sounds like you really do need to get your tonsils taken out. Go see an ENT doc. (ENT=ear nose throat)

I had a patient (not banded) who was having this issue and I told her to go see the ENT Dr. When I saw her the next time she told me the Dr. said it was the worst case he had seen. She is so much happier with the tonsils gone.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
