I had my second fill recently - having lost nothing since my band fitting on Feb 11. Am I right in saying that it takes days for the true extent of the restriction to become apparent?

I had fluids for 2 days and then went on to real food, and yesterday I could eat almost anything. Today I feel a little different - because I ate a chicken leg and had a long stuck episode - this may indicate I am getting more restricted? Although if eat other things, I can still eat a lot. BAked potatoes are something I eat - and I still find I can have a couple at a sitting - potatoes are easier than chicken. I find I can't eat tuna at all - I can feel it just sitting there in my stomach and going nowhere.

Is there anything someone could recommend to eat that would definitely indicate if I have restriction? For example: if I can eat 2 baked potatoes - does that mean I am still too loose at 10cm in a 14cc band? Or should I judge it by the chicken? Does food getting stuck indicate restriction, or are the two concepts totally separate? What about fish in breadcrumbs? If I can have two of those straight off, does that mean I am too loose?

I had to explain it all to my Mum again today why I haven't lost anything, and why it might take a few more fills - but at 10mls already I am starting not to see the light in the tunnel.

To me, restriction was explained as being full on 6 to 8 ounces of food and being satisfied from that amount for 4 to 5 hours without being hungry.

Getting stuck, while indicating that the passageway is smaller, really is a sign that you either took too big a bite or didn't chew your food well enough.

I wish I had the answer for you about whether or not restriction is delayed. This is something I have been wondering too. I actually just had a fill on Thursday and started back on regular foods yesterday and have no issues with anything. It almost feels like he took some out.

Regarding what you're eating though. I would start with Protein first, like 4 ounces of fish or chicken and then maybe 1/4 cup of carbs like a potato and 1/4 cup of veggies and see how that does. Sometimes potatoes can be slider foods and really don't provide the Protein we so need to get from our meals. It may be what you are eating since the fill (some people have told me they have to readjust to things after each fill, as some things don't go down as easy), so try to switch that up a bit and see if it helps.

You sure you have that right? 10ml (aka 10cc) in your 14cc band on your second fill!?!? That does not sound quite right. Usually a first fill in a 14cc band would be 3-4cc, and a second fill 2-3 cc more. You would be the first I've heard of to have such an aggressive fill schedule.

I've been told that fills in a 14cc band should be 3-3-2 then 1cc till restriction occurs. I go for my 2nd fill on Thursday. As of now the only time I feel I have a band is when food gets stuck. However I can eat pretty much anything as long as I remember to chew well. Keep us informed.

5ml was put in during the operation. The first fill increased that to 8.25ml. The 2nd fill increased that to 10 or 10.25ml - I forget which.

Unfortunately, that is an accurate description of my situation too. I am not going to eat chicken again - it is getting stuck all the time. I am worried that there is not much room to fill the band further - I have 10mls in already and no restriction. I may just be the one person who this operation turns out to be no more than an expensive way of getting a nice bit of plastic inside me. I am still hoping though that the next fill will do it! Basically I want to be so restricted I can hardly eat - if only the doctor would listen to that!

I have 11cc in my 14cc band and feel like I am on the verge of restriction, finally. I can't eat much before I feel physically full, but it doesn't give me relief from hunger, if that makes sense. I am going in next Wed for a fill and hoping this is it! So, no, it's not uncommon to need more than 10cc to get to restriction. There's a poll down in the fill section (I think) about how many cc's to get to restriction in a 14cc band, and it's something like 25% of people need more than 10cc, so don't be discouraged!

My fills were 6, 1.5, 1.5, 1, and 1 every four weeks for a total of 11. I am thinking .5 might get me there this time!

Hang in there - I keep telling myself the same thing. :redface:

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
