Hi! I'm new here - my name is Amy and I have just been approved by my insurance for banding and my date is set for May 19th.

My question is - that is a pretty big week for us as far as activity. My daughter's 9th birthday is the 20th, and my husbands college graduation is the 22nd - which means my IL's will be in town. Will I be ok and able to attend graduation. DD's birthday will be dinner out and cake (which obviously I will not be partaking in, but I'd like to be present). It's a good time for us though because my husband typically travels for work and will be home on vacation. My mom will be here the following week to lend a hand if needed.

Am I crazy to try to fit it all in? I've previously had 3 c/sections and a nasty hernia repair surgery so I'm no stranger to pain and post surgery discomfort - but I'm older now and a bit more nervous this time. :scared2:

Thanks!!

Hi,

I have a pretty high pain tolerance too and I got tired very easily for the first week. I would not have felt like all this activity. You could attend the graduation if someone else was making it easier for you. Be prepared to give yourself plenty of time to heal. It was 2 weeks before I felt myself again.

I wouldn't be able to do all that, but I'm kind of wimpy.:scared2:

I know for me the day after the surgery was much more painful than the day of. The anaesthetic had worn off and I was really tired. I was taking all of the pain killers I had been prescribed.

I had my surgery on a Thursday, and by Sunday I was up and around a bit more, but I was still pretty tired and couldn't bend over at all.

I've had 2 c-sections, too--and banding was NOTHING like them. It was much, much easier. BUT it still involves general anesthesia, manipulation of internal organs, etc---and there is NO way I would have wanted to go out for a birthday celebration the day after surgery. None whatsoever.

I have a very high pain threshold. But it wasn't a pain issue as much as a general-crud issue. Anesthesia, meds, everything all together just would have made it very unpleasant for me. There's gas pain, there may be nausea, there's incisional discomfort, there's bloating....nothing overwhelming on its own (really, it's very manageable). But that's if you can just kind of hang out for a few days.

A graduation that soon seems ambitious, as well. Sitting for a prolonged period, milling through a large crowd, etc.---no fun, IMO.

In your shoes, I'd reluctantly try to reschedule surgery.

Thank you everyone for the advice. When I told my daughter about the surgery she was very concerned and suggested that we have a low key birthday at home on her actual birthday (the day after my surgery) and something more fun out on another day when grandma will be here (my mom is coming the week after surgery to lend a hand). I really love that kid. My husbands graduation obviously can't be rescheduled and I will have help that day with my In-Laws, and I SOO don't want to reschedule (and my husband doesn't want me too either), so I'm going to go for it and hope for the best. Worst case scenario is that I miss it - and my loving husband understands that it is a possibility.

I'm sure i'll be around ALOT more asking tons of questions so thanks for all the advice and input!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
