HelenC32 1 Posted June 7, 2010 Liberty...Glad to hear things are progressing smoothly for you! I am so happy to hear about the diet you are on! I was beginning to think I am the ONLY person on this site who is on that strict of a diet...lol My doc has be doing the same thing. This 1st week is Clear Liquids and sugars (the RN said this is where my energy will come from). So I drink Water, eat Jello, drink water, have a juice, drink Vitamin water, etc etc. I can't have anything else until this coming Friday---my 1 week mark! At that point I get to have sugar free pudding, Protein Shakes and a few other "mushy" items. Week 3 is when I get to have things like mashed potatoes, veggies I can mash with a fork, etc. It is strange how the diet varies from doctor to doctor though. I like the idea of eating pudding, etc at this stage (I had my surgery Friday) but at the same time, I really don't have a "want" for it yet. I am staying well hydrated and feel fine...no hunger issues yet! Hopefully this will continue. I cannot wait to get down to where I can actually shop in the "cute" section and buy clothes that I love...not ones that hide and camoflauge my fat! lol Good luck to us all!!! CurvyCat 0 Posted June 7, 2010 Helen, my Dr has a diet similar to yours. I won't be banded until next week, but I'll be on clear liquids for a week post-op, then on full liquids for a week. Then I get to progress to pureed food for 2 weeks, then mushies for 2 weeks. So it'll be 6 weeks before I get real food. I might have to ask if I can start testing real food in small doses at week 5, though, as I'm supposed to be in Chicago that week and I'm not sure how easy it will be for me to find ALL mushy food outside of my own kitchen. heh Though maybe it's better if I'm very limited there instead -- it will be easier to fend off the in-laws who all love to eat and love to feed people if I have a blanket "No" to real food. I agree that it's weird to see all the different requirements that doctors have. My surgeon seems to definitely work on the more conservative/cautious side of things, which I don't mind too much... I'd rather he be TOO careful than not careful enough.
chillax 0 Posted June 7, 2010 i have 2 days till the surgery, and i am freaking out... not so much about the op , more about never ever to be able to eat my fav foods and what happened if it doesn't work? after reading all the posting of people that the op didn't help too much
HelenC32 1 Posted June 7, 2010 Chillax...I felt the same way! BUT...after talking to a few people on here and talking to the RN that I worked with on all my pre-op and post-op instructions, I have found that I will be able to eat pretty much anything I want. Certain foods like celery (which I love), apple skins and things like that are a no no due to the size of the stoma. Other than that, I can eat whatever I want as long as I chew-chew-chew! The big thing is, like with any "diet", we have to be careful what we eat due to nutrition requirements. My nurse told me that if I want pizza, have pizza! But only 1 slice and not every day. Occasionally having pizza or lasagna or even the rare piece of chocolate cake is not a problem. It all has to due with portion size and moderation. Use those "favorite foods" as rewards or special occasions rather than the norm. I am totally psyched about this journey and can't wait to see the pounds falling off. The fact that I am not experiencing hunger yet probably helps the attitude though. lol
chillax 0 Posted June 7, 2010 thank for the answer, it does make me fell better, specially seeing that u had it done and u not hungry. I'm hungry with this pre op diet and that drive me crazy...lol

agiudice 0 Posted June 8, 2010 I've been officially banded for 24 hours! Surgery went fine. Was able to get the 4cc band. Doc said my inside look great. I have 2 small and 1 larger insicion. The large one with the port does have a little pain to it. Not unbareable. The gas was painful yesterday, it's fially disapating a bit. But I can hear it rolling around my gut. Wish I could burp, I think it would give me some relief. But I cant physically make myself... Lots of Water, allthough I can feel it backing up into my esphogus.. schwartz26 0 Posted June 8, 2010 I'm glad to hear that those of you June Bandsters who have had their surgery that it seems to be going well! Good luck to those whose dates are just about here. My surgery date is 6/24 I am excited and also nervous, hoping I don't regret my decision. I am happy I have no pre-op liquid diet like many of you. I had to lose 12.5 pounds before surgery would be scheduled but I can eat normally until the day before surgery. Good Luck and I look forward to following all of your journey's! :tongue2:
