Well, I must say that I am so excited. I posted earlier about losing 10 pounds since Sunday, but I took my measurements and couldn't be more excited. Neck - 0.5 inches, Arm - 0.25 inches, Thigh - 1.5 inches, Breast - 2.75 inches,:cursing: Waist - 2 inches, Hips - 2 inches for a total of 9 inches lost in 6 days. YIPPEEE, for me. lol

Hey if any of you guys hasn't found it on your own you can go to realizemysuccess.com and find a website set up by the makers of the realize band (Johnson and Johnson). You can log your food diary, record your weight and measurements and a bunch of other features. I really am enjoying using it and it is free.

I just found out yesterday that my surgery is on june 17th. The approval procces was vague and it feels like its all happening so fast! I'm so excited and so scared. Not too worried about the liquid diet...but I'm still smoking(very addicted) and so scared to quit yet scared to be smoking after all I have read about going under anesthesia as a smoker. I had planned to quit afterwards but now I know I have to before hand and its causing 90% of my pre surgey anxiety. liquid diet starts Wednesday...how can I give up eating and smoking at the same time?

I'm on day 3 of my pre-op diet and I must say it is not as bad as I thought it would be, although I am allowed one meal a day as long it has no carbs.

I am being banded on June 9 by Dr. Mindy Lane in Lansing, MI. I am on day 5 of the pre-op liquid diet. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. I am so nervous/excited. My doctor has her patients use the New Direction shakes. I recommend the chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. The best part was that during the mandatory 6 week nutrition/educational classes she has you attend you get to try a different flavor every week. It was nice to know what to expect. Good luck to everyone and I can't wait to read all the week 1 stories!

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on the site! I am scheduled for surgery on June 17th (pending approval) with Dr. Kurian at NYU Lagone and I am so anxious and nervous. I start my pre-op diet this Thursday June 3rd and I find myself getting sad over this whole liquid diet situation! I've bought some items already as a trial basis to see what I like and don't like as far as Protein Shakes but I think more of my anxiety is coming from the fact that I feel that I is all happening so fast (not complaining because I've been FAT for way too long now). I'm just a little concerned because I have to start the pre-op diet without actually having insurance approval. My pre-admission testing is also scheduled for the 3rd so I honestly feel that there is a lot going on right now.

I don't really see any reason why my insurance would deny me since I fall under the criteria of morbidly obese but you just never know! Any way I've been trying to mentally prepare myself to start and I am extremely excited to have chosen this procedure as I feel that this as a way for me to take control of my eating habits and weight!

Good luck to all the June Bandsters, much success on your journey and I look forward to reading about your successes.

Hi,

I am getting banded on June 2. However, I am a little confused. The drs' office called and said that they wanted me on all liquids from here til the surgery.. does that mean my Protein Shakes that I have been having or does that mean a clear diet?

thanks for your input.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
