Acid Reflex?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 4 years ago and have never really had a problem with unloading. But, lately in the mornings almost like clock work i vomit an acidy liquid that seems to build up during the night while im sleeping. When going to sleep at night i have no problems at all. i try not sleep right away after i eat @ night. but it's getting a'lil wierd!

Has anyone had this or heard of this before??? Thanks

You are lucky that you can wait until morning to "unload". I had the same problem except I was actually waking up with vomit on my pillow and bed. Acid Reflux (GERD) was the cause of my problems. I had to start taking an antacid around 8pm everynight and there can be no eating after that. I also put a small pillow under my chest only about 2 inches thick and slept with my head higher up. This helped for the most part but I recently had .25 taken out of my band and BANG the acid reflux has went down about 80%. What a relief. If you google GERD if will give you some suggestions.

Best to see your surgeon..he can prescribe something, but you want to make sure it is not something more serious...although it prob is the reflux

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
