My first Stuck episode 1 month post op

Recommended Posts

I was eating some meat last night and I did not chew it enough and ate too fast. I had my first stuck episode. I did not think it was possible since I haven't had my first fill yet. But boy did it hurt. Water did not push it down, it only hurt more. Then I finally threw it up. I learned my lesson the hard way.

I'm getting my first fill in 2 weeks. From what I have read here it may take 3 or 4 to get restriction. In the meantime it's all about will power. I've lost 20 lbs since my pre op diet and surgery but I haven't lost anymore weight in the last 2-3 weeks. I heard that is normal also. I can't wait to get restriction.

I had my first stuck episope this morning and it came back up this time. A couple of other times I have got stuck but managed for it to go down...not this time. I learned my lesson. Eat slow small bites. The only thing I could think of while I was getting sick was that I am ruining my band what if it slips and I am only 4 weeks out. I think I am fine but mad me feel bad enough to pay more attention now when I eat.

Yesterday was my 1 month post op date and I got stuck for the first time as well. I was eating a lowfat/carb high Protein Jimmy Deans D Lights ( a egg mcmuffin ) I had had these in the past...and never had an issue. But last night I guess I wasnt paying attention and ate too fast and did not chew well....after 3 bites I got stuck from the bread....Now, I have had no fills and no problems eating anything but I really got stuck on this. It was the worst pain I have felt in a long time. It lasted about an hour and a half. I ended up vomiting it all up and felt a lot better. I have learned my lesson....Chew very well, small bites and no more bread!!

Today, I am on liquids only and trying to be very gentle with my body....I remember my surgeon saying in the first consult that when I do have a stuck episode, it will teach me that I don't want it to happen again....boy was she right!!

Take Care All,

Meg

I too am almost one month out. Last night I was starving and ate way too quickly! Well, I got stuck on a mouth full of rice. (I know rice isn't recommended, but I haven't had any problems with it...until last night) I was able to drink Water and bring it back up. It was the worst feeling! I am still hoping that I get a fill on tuesday. Not that I am happy that we got stuck...but it is nice to know that there are people in the same boat as myself!

I have not had this experience (yet) as I am only 12 days post-op... but was very interested in reading this post to find out about it. So.. the pain you feel.. is it like a stabbing pain in your chest... or what? How would you describe it?... just so I won't freak out if it happens to me and I know what is going on!... and... is the best advice when this happens to drink water... so it either goes on through or back up? Thanks!

Yes, it feels like a stabbing pain in your chest. Drinking Water only makes it feel worse. Everytime you swallow it hurts. I heard that a good thing to do is to lean up against a chair and put your head down.

I didn't have a stuck episode until after my 2nd fill. Then I got stuck (3) times in the same week. For me it was a panic feeling. Happened twice at home and once at work. I had to go to the restroom and get sick each time in order to have relief.

I don't think I have rescriction yet, because most of the time I feel like I could continue eating. But I am very cautious now about chewing really good and to just stop eating before becoming full. I don't want that stuck feeling again.

I am close to 3 months post-op and still haven't even tried bread. The closest that I have come to bread is having a few Wheat Thins. I haven't even tried a tortilla - I just eat the insides of a burrito.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
