Am I supposed to "feel" the band inside me?

Recommended Posts

I have been banded for 5 weeks. Whenever I inhale deeply I swear I can feel where my band is. It's not painful, just uncomfortable. In the morning it feels the same way, kinda of tight, and as the day goes it loosens and I barely notice it's there. It really depends on the day. On my post op visit dr. didn't seem too concerned. It has gotten better over the last few weeks but it hasn't gone away. Does anyone else feel their band? I have no problems swallowing, nothing comes back up and I haven't had problems with any food. Minimal complications....

So far I have lost 20 lbs. and I feel fantastic. Going for a fill soon. I have lost most of my weight in my belly area and it seems like my port has shifted position. It hasn't flipped it just feels like it maybe shifted? I can still press on the site with my fingers and feel it. Am I just paranoid? Has one else had their port shift?

Thank everyone!

I have never felt my band, but there are other bandsters on here who swear they do. I do however feel my port often....

I was also banded about 5 weeks ago on 3/16 and I'm down from 332 to 310. I also can feel my band its a slight uncomfortable feeling early in the morning. But as the day progresses I don't notice as much. Also I found that when I roll over in the bed I can tell its there. But overall I'm satisified with my decision. I have my first fill on Mon so Im excited to see what that will be. On surgery day I recv 3cc in a 10cc band.

Congrats to everyone on the weight loss.

I can't feel my band but it is normal for the port to appear to be shifting...it's actually stitched to the muscle but the fat and skin obviously changes as we lose weight so it seems like it's shifting around. Early on I joked with my Dr that I should get a bullseye tatoo over my port so it would make fills easier and she told me that it would change as I lost weight.

I was banded on 3/18, and I feel it exactly as you describe. In the evening or after a meal I can still feel it when I take a deep breath, although not as much as morning.

Must not be too unusual

I swear I can feel my band also, but my Dr. says I shouldn't hmmm....

My port has rotated while I have lost weight, my fill/un-fills take forever for the doctors to find the top of my port.

Now I'm wondering, is this feeling going to go away? Or will we just get used to it? Any long-time bandsters have an opinion?

i thought i felt my band too but during my last fill i had it under xray and i had him look at my port location too. it turns out is the tubing i'm feeling, not the band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
