Has anyone had a hard time getting approved?

Recommended Posts

With less than 40 BMI? I am at 37-38 BMI...(depending on the day of the week!) I know they say if you have other morbid conds, you can get approved, but I dont really have any Dr visit notes to provide on them....I am one of those people that don't really like to do to the Dr when I am hurting. I am always sleepy, freq headaches, joint problems, etc...but nothing I can document. Please let me know if you have similar BMI and were still approved? Thx! And congrats to everyone on here that's had the surgery and is now loving life even more!!! I can't wait and am trying not to get too excited just in case. Thx!!

I apparently don't have any co-morbidities (because they aren't treatable yet). My BMI is over 40 but my insurance (Tricare) is not consistently applying the rules to everyone. My surgeon has sent me everywhere trying to document possible co-morbidities for me. Talk to your surgeon, as he may do the same.

I think it depends on your insurance. Some carriers are more strict than others. I have Aetna and my doctor has told me they're pretty good about approving people. My BMI is right at 39-40 and I have no co-morbidities. My doctor's office doesn't seem to think there will be a problem. I guess we'll see.....they submitted everything last week and now I'm just playing the waiting game....

Good luck to you!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
