Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Seeking Lapband Buddy

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My name is Barbara and I am getting ready to be banded 6/2/10. I am currently 256 lbs (down from 270 at the start of this journey in August, '09.) I am having some concerns from reading the discussion boards about starving after surgery. I am wondering how I will handle that feeling along with other things I could experience.

I would like to connect with someone who can help me through this process so that I can realize the healthy life I deserve to have.

Hi Barbara:

My name is Sandi and I had my lap band surgery almost 6 years ago. You can make it through the first period after surgery, I promise. Some people are hungry, but others are not. Every one of us is different and has different reactions to different stages of this journey. Please don't let the people who are struggling scare you off from taking a huge step toward your health. If you would like to read about my journey and how I felt after surgery you can find it on my blog at Sandi's Banded Living — My Lapband Weight Loss Success Story

I'd be glad to offer any help that I can as you start your journey. Feel free to send me PM's or email me directly. good luck to you!

Hi Barbara,

I am going to be banded on 06/07/2010, had my pre-op visits yestrerday. I too started out at 270, began this journey last September after seeing some not so flattering pictures of my self and realized that I need help with my weight. I have lost 21lbs, and weighed in at 250 at the pre-op visit, I am hoping to get to 140. If you want to chat and be buddies please write back. Good luck with your journey.

Hello Michelle,

Thanks for replying to my thread. I would love to be buddies with you. So you are not being banded too long after me. That's cool. Are you having to do the Medifast or liver reduction diet before surgery? I am on it now but 2 weeks. It is definitely a test of will. What state do you live in? I am in Indiana.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
