How do you know if your band has moved/slipped?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering about the weird little pains going on. Band slippage or normal?

Any help would be appreciated!

It's my understanding that if the band slips you can't keep anything down- even fluids. I think you are ok. I would talk to your doc. if your worried about the pains.

Thanks. Yes, I am going in for that Barium test Monday morning to make sure all went well. I am sure they could tell from the X Ray.

I guess I am a worry wart!

At one of my support groups one of the lady's did have her band slip and confirmed what was mentioned. The two guest speakers nurse practioner and psychologist aslo mentioned it is very painful and will not be able to keep anything down.

Hi Everyone my Band slipped about 3 weeks ago. I had to get rebanded. Another surgery. It is very serious if it slips. I could not keep anything down not even Water. No liquids. Went right down and back up. YUCK! I was lucky that I did not feel any physical pain. I did not eat or drink for 4 days while the doctors took the Fluid out of the band and I was still sick. I became severly dehydrated. I was admitted to the ER to get fluids where they did upper GI and Xray to see slip. Emergency Surgery next morning and I wasnt allowed to drink anything till after surgery because they were afraid it would slip more. Not fun to go through but I feel great now. 3 weeks out and I feel like I got a new lease on Life. Take Slips seriously please.

I had 2 slips and they were different both times

The first Water would not go down and I had a heavy metal taste in my mouth. Under barium I had a complete block. I had a heaviness in my chest and was very uncomfortable.

The second I could drink and swallow but still had the metal taste in my mouth. It was not a complete block so Water and liquids could pass through my band but very slowly. I had the telltale metal taste in my mouth.

A slip is a very unique thing that is almost in my opinion unmistakable. I am recovering from my revision surgery to reposition my band. Once a slip happens it will continue to occur. A unfill will most likely fix the slip but chances are you will reslip eventually.

Hope this helps!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
