Failing and depressed.

Recommended Posts

Paron me while I whine.

I'm at my 1 year anniversary since starting my supervised pre-op diet, and have dropped around 70lbs total (30 pre-surgery/40 post-surgery). However, I haven't lost anything since the first of the year, and have actually put on 8lbs since then.

It's entirely my fault too. After the holidays I got into a bit of a funk, and between that and the horrible weather, didn't get enough excersize in, and began eating badly. I'm still in the funk, and can't seem to get myself out of this cycle.

Next week I have a doctors appointment, and get to explain why i've put on weight. I feel like I went through a lot to get this surgery, and did so well for the first 4 months, but since then have completely lost the will, and motivation to continue with it.

The worst part is that I KNOW what needs to be done, and have the tools to do it. Unfortunately, I also know that it's so much easier to just eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's and sleep for 14 hours.

Bleh.

Maybe you should see a therapist. I started seeing one about 6 months before surgery and I think it has been my biggest tool for success....and another fill might help....keep us updated

You're certainly not the first one to have this happen to, so don't beat yourself up or feel ashamed to see the Dr. I would definately talk to a therapist and maybe get on a anti-depressant for a while...sometimes it's needed and can get you outta the funk you're in. Look for a support group in your area...even if you have to drag yourself there you will be surprised how much it can help. You're right..you have the tools and you can make it happen..sometimes we just need a little help.

If this were easy, we'd all be wearing a pair of size 2 skinny jeans...I'm glad you have your appointment next week. I'm thinking that your doctor will give you a fill. With the fill and liquids for a days or two, it will be easier to get back on track. Just make sure you don't cancel that appointment. So many people are afraid to talk to their doctor when they struggle, but that's why they are there and they've seen it all before.

Let us know how you are doing. We all want to see you succeed.

Cindy

Have you considered giving yourself permission to stay at the weight you are for a while? I have only lost 50 pounds but I am having some issues accepting it. Maybe if you took a break from trying to lose and just worked on accepting yourself as you are now with the intention to lose more later if you chose to. Could you be content where you are now and feel pressured by others to lose more? This might not be the case but I thought I might mention it. Because I am thinking I might not lose as much as I originally planned. Now when someone asks how much more I plan to lose, I say somewhere between 7 and 17 more pounds. Now I am planning to let my body tell me when to stop not my scales, not my preconceived plans, and not other peoples ideas of what I should weigh.

look at the positive side of this, you are definitely aware that you need to do something and that you know this is only a temporary setback. but you do need to either talk to someone or start doing exercise, i think this is the best way to go about it......you'll definitely feel the difference. whichever way i wish you the best of luck!!! hang in there, Godbless:smile2:

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
