What do you normally have for breakfast?

Recommended Posts

I just had my first fill on Monday and I had been drinking Muscle Milk Protein shakes every morning for Breakfast, but I swear since my first fill, they're not holding me over as long. So, today I branched out with two slices of whole grain toast with 2 tblsp of Peanut Butter. (Well, it wasn't quite 2 because I go light on the PNB)

The bread was 35 calories per slice and double Protein, so altogether my Breakfast had 15 grams of protein and less than 20 grams of carbs. Total calories were 210.

I ate almost both slices. Is that too much? They weren't large slices of toast (I'd say slightly smaller than the average loaf) but still I ate BOTH. Of course, I do feel full now. But, I want to make sure that I'm not overeating.

What do you normally eat for breakfast. I am not an egg person and I can't stand yogurt, either. I'm just curious to see how other bandsters handle this meal. And - I'm a breakfast person. I always eat heavier in the morning and at lunch than I do at night.

I have pretty good restriction and am pretty tight in the morning so I have a breakfast smoothie. Here's what in it in case you are interested:

3 oz pineapple juice

3 oz milk

1 Activia lite vanilla yogurt

1/2 frozen banana

3 frozen strawberries

(few blueberries if I have them on hand)

1 scoop vanilla Protein powder

It is about 280 calories and 28 grams of Protein so gets me off to a good start protein wise and gives me some dairy and my fruit for the day. It lasts me about 4 hours (no different than a solid food does for breakfast) - I seem to go longer between lunch and dinner than breakfast and lunch.

Your breakfast is one of my old favorites, but just doesn't work well for me much anymore.

Hope you get some more ideas!

I just do a protien shake in the morning. Lasts about 3 hours and then I have lunch. I used to be a big breakfast person, but not as much since the band.

It doesn't sound like your eating too much in the am in terms of calories or volume. Keep up the good work!

I have either an egg (usually hard fried with a bit of Pam)

or a Morning star sausage patty

or some cottage cheese.< /p>

I'm not a breakfast person either and I am usually headed out the door in a hurry; so i just grab a slim fast shake on the way out the door. That normally holds me over until late morning and I may eat a Protein Bar or something small to hold me over until lunch. This way I'm sure to get plenty of Protein in for the day and i get it in before I start eating actual food. This way i can eat pretty much whatever I want (within reason, you know what I mean) and I'm not worrying about how much protein it has.

I use to have the low carb slim fast but since they recalled them I can't find the low carb ones on the shelf since. Now I drink carnation instant breakfast the no sugar ones but they don't hold me over like the slim fast did. Hope they put them back on the shelf soon!!!

I've been doing the Low-Carb Slim Fast shakes (they have more Protein (20grams) than the "high proten" Slim Fast shakes (15 grams)...whaaa?) and that usually holds me over till late morning as well.

Sounds like you are doing fine with amounts and calories in the AM. I never liked yogurt much either until I tried greek yogurt. Have you tried that? I usually buy the plain greek yogurt, Fage (pronounced Fa-yeh) brand and add 2 sweet and lows. It's kinda tart if you don't add sweetner. I add frozen rashberries and blueberries. It has 150 cal for 1 cup, the frozen berries are like 70 cal for 1 1/4 cup. Sometimes I add granola. I usually eat a fraction of those portion sizes so it's a really low cal breakfast and keeps me full for hours. Depending on my restriction level sometimes I eat again only when I cook dinner for my kids.

Other things I eat are cottage cheese and pineapple, over easy egg and sausage patty, or some Protein left over from the night before..lol

I really like Advant-edge carb control Protein Drinks too if I'm in a hurry.

By the way it's normal for you to be a little less satisfied with a liquid meal at your stage because all the swelling is gone and healing has happened. Once you get better restriction you may find it satisfies you again. Eatting your biggest meal in the AM and smaller in the PM is an excellent way to eat.

I have the same thing each morning 4oz of greek yogart with sugar free cool whip. I find it satisfying and greek yogart has about 2x the amount of protien of regular yogart.

Don't count out non-breakfast type foods for breakfast. I love tuna salad. My other favorite is turkey deli slices spread with low fat laughing cow cheese rolled together.

I usually have 1 egg scrambled with .5 oz of low fat cheddar cheese mixed in. I've tried Protein drinks, but I get hungry so quickly with them!

I'm a bad Breakfast skipper, lol. I've become like that as i got older, I NEVER used to miss my breakie.

But I've always been a Cereal or toast eater when I do eat. I'm not fond of eggs and such at breakfast time, and since I've been banded, I just dont like toast as much anymore. I can eat bread and toast, and it doesnt get stuck, but leaves me with a vague "uneasiness" that I dont enjoy so I dont usually eat it.

So..... usually I get to work first and have some muesli or oatmeal.

My workday breakfast is Kashi warm cinnamon Cereal with 3/4 cup Almond breeze unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I usually add a splenda.

On weekends where i can be adventurous I may have a Vita top or an egg in a wrap. Sometimes I get stuck with it, so I stick with cereal during the week as it always goes down.

BTW The almond milk is very good. It is not soy either.

Bambam,

Your smoothie sounds great! I can't wait to try it. I have just started soft foods so I have tried scrambled eggs, grits, oatmeal, and Protein Shakes this week.

I am having major issues with being overtight in the a.m. and can't handle anything solid at this point, I got in the bad habit of skipping breakfast and then by lunch I was ravenous and eating too fast and PBing, blah blah blah. While I can't handle much and absolutely nothing solid I've started drinking a Light and Fit fat free yogurt smoothie, not a lot of Protein but only 70 calories so better than skipping breakfast altogether and my stomach likes it, usually about 10:30 I have a snack of a cheese stick or yogurt and by lunch at 1:00 I'm ready for real food.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
