I'm having acid problems lately, but I'm not too tight. And it has started gradually not suddenly. I'm thinking it maybe just due to my bad diet lately (I need to get back on things)...Anyone else have problems, think I should be worried?

Just talk to your surgeon about it..I have had some probs with it on and off...your surgeon might prescribe you something because it isn't good for your esophagus to have too much acid.

I started recently having the same problem. That acidy feeling is awful! I cut out coffee, which I read was an irritant, and fruit juices. I have to sleep propped up now because it wakes me up at night!

I just emailed my doctor about it, hoping I can take something preventative rather than chewing on the tums like I have been. Please post if you find a solution, and I will let you know what my doc says when he gets back to me.

Well I did do a round of prilosec OTC and it worked like magic. Tums and pepto bismol didn't do CRAP! However now I'm just doing 1 pill as needed-usually once or twice a week. I'm just not sure if that's safe. And yeah coffee is a BIG no-no.

I just had my pre-op appt and my doctor said if I ever get acid problems after surgery to call his office. He said it shouldn't be happening... but I am not banded yet, so I dont know how any of it feels!!

Some days I get acid and somedays I dont. I have found that if I feel it starting I will have half a glass of low fat milk....seems to work a treat! Did have strong anti acid tablets from doctor but they were only ok for few days....milk seems to work better and its not medication! I find if I have certain things like wine for example, the next day I am quite acidic!....:)

I have bad heartburn problems. When they started, it was all above the band. With the acids, I could hardly keep anything down. The acids were messing my band swelling, so they had to take some out. You might be too tight. Now I am a mess, but the acids are trapped in my lower stomach, and I have to take omeprazal (sp?) and over the counter zantac. But I am not eating right either. When I got too tight, I started eating sweets, it is the only thing that would work. Now I eat them too much....grrrr. I have been the same weight for almost a year.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
