I had surgery April 21, 2010 and have had hiccups for the last two days. Thanks for explaining this. I feel good but a bit tired. It is hard to listen to the body and realize the signs it is giving me, after so many years of ignoring it! The no Water for 30 minutes before and after meals is what throws me, so now I set the timer.

I'm at Day 3 post-op, and I get pretty drastic hiccups every time I have to swallow a pill (I take 6 in the morning and 2 at night, related to blood pressure). I'm sipping the bare minimum of Water every time, and the pills aren't big. Please say this goes away, or there's a solution. I can't swallow a sugar pack anymore to get rid of them anymore, and can't take 10 gulps of water. Pretty painful, too.

I think ther are a couple of signals to warn us that we are getting close to full. Hiccups and the watering of my is the second one the third is the tightness in my chest , this last one is not one you want to get. it can get very painful if a foodpiece went down not chewed up quite enough. Been bande over 2 yrs. So I recognize these pretty quick , it just varies betweent he runny eyes and nose then the hiccups. but if you keep puttin more food in, STOP THEN , IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE FOR THOSE NEXT BITES....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
