Nov 4th..I did it! but why the liquid/pureed/soft food diet afterwards?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I did it!...Nov 4th was the big day!

Today I returned back to work and I was not to very comfortable, too much bending and standing, etc..

Still trying to survive the liquid intake...I am dying here! well not quite, but the drama helps.

Does anyone out there know why we need to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks AFTER surgery and a pureed dies for 2 weeks after and a soft diet another 2 weeks.

I just got banded Nov 4th and I am missing the simple action of chewing...I hate soup!

The positive site is that I will be ready to eat food by Xmas...I hope

Thanks

Your band needs to set tinto place, sort of like anchoring in. Any solids foods could be harmful since digestion with solid foods is a work out on your stomach with so much turning and churning, it could make your band slip if it has not set into place. Not to mention you most likely have lots of swelling which would make for solids very painful going down. Be wise, follow your Dr.s orders, they are there for a reason. Congratulations to you on your new band. I wish you lots of success :D

Yep, La madam said it all. Just know it won't last. That is the exact routine I had to follow as well. You think it is never going to end and then one day you are on solids and you are going to wonder where the time went...ok...not really...you are going to be starving some days...but you get through it to make sure you band is safe and secure.

I think the previous posters said it all. Definately listen to your Dr's orders. I'm out of the liquid and onto the mushy stage. I'll be on solids by Thanksgiving! WooHoo! I can't wait! I know I won't be overstuffing myself this year, which actually is a huge relief.

You definately don't want to upset your tender stomach after surgery. Stay on liquids and follow the stages the doc sets for you. You won't be sorry you did.

Good luck! I know you'll love your band!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
