Hi, I am not from Arizona, but I went with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali and I know that Arizona is not far away. So, you could check him out. I hightly recommend him and his staff, they are very reliable and professional and i didn't have any complications. If you need any more information call Nina she's the patient coordinator and she'll gladly give you all the necessary info. Goodluck, and please keep me posted.

Thanks for the info Laura. I researched 3 Doc's last night. I came up with Dr.Simpson, Dr.Blackstone, and Dr.Schwartz. It's just a matter of choosing one and making an appointment! I keep you posted:redface:

I used Dr. Schwartz. I feel he is a great surgeon, but he's not very "touchy feely". Personally, I didn't care, but I know others are very put off by that kind of personality. I had zero complications from the surgery itself - not even the infamous shoulder pain. It's also pretty easy to schedule follow up appts with his office. None of the office staff are "snarky". I've been pleased with him as my surgeon.

Thanks lbndoc:redface:. My PCP has said that Dr. Schwartz isn't exactly the most outwardly person, but that he's a great surgeon, and that's what matters in the end!

Hi!

I am in Peoria, and am going thru the weight loss institute of AZ in Phx. Their surgeons are Dr. DeBarros and Dr. Orris. My doc is DeBarros. I like him alot! He is very personable, and the other thing is is that he has a band himself! So he knows what his patients go thru first hand.

They have seminars on the east side, central Phx and also on the west side. You should check them out!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
