This afternoon I got a call from my insurance telling me I was approved for surgery!!!! Then 2 hours later I got a call from my drs office to set up the date. They had someone cancel and wanted to know if I wanted their spot. i said sure. Im getting banded April 29th!!! Only 9 days away!!! OMG im just a ball full of emotions. Im super excited and anxious and of course nervous too.

I asked about pre-op diet and they said just high Protein and low carb. I should have asked for more specific foods but I was too wound up. Can anyone give me some pointers? Like is steak and other meats ok? What about Breakfast and lunch time? Eeks!!!!!

chicken and turkey!

My personal trainer says "i shall not eat anything that walks on four legs more then once a week"

Stay away from rice, breads, pastas, Cereal. And if you do have any of this, make sure its whole wheat. If this was my pre-op diet I would just stay away from it all.

Hope you like eggs!! eggs have no carbs and good Protein. I eat lunch meat and pickles a lot for lunch.

Be very aware of the nutrition labels, look for low carbs and high Protein. You should also try a protein low carb shake, it will refuel you!

Oh and i noticed when i was craving carbs i got sugar free Jello and that helped alot!

Whoo hoo! That is awesome!!!

Eat a lot of lean chicken and turkey. I eat a lot of the Sara Lee deli turkey - you can buy it at the grocery. It's like 50 calories for four slices and 10 grams of Protein. Plus, you could do Turkey Bacon (watch the sodium) and you could have chicken in a low-carb tortilla.

I also drink a TON of muscle milk. Very low carb ad 15 grams of Protein. It was good for breakfast and I still drink it.

Also - watch your sugars when you're looking at everything to eat. Those are hidden carbs sometimes.

Good luck - you'll LOVE your band! Trust me!

Hi Faith23 I must have gotten on this site just as you were getting off. My date is the 29th also. And yes I'm a bit nervous . Didnt you have those group meetings and have them explain what you could and couldnt eat? I had to go through 6 months of group meetings as well as a trainer for exercize and see a dietician. where are you from? im in maine , maybe different places do different things. anyway good luck next Fri. Im sure we'll both do fine

Wow that is great! I'm still months away, but I heard someone say no white food because it is usually high carb. LOL on the above post about the food walking on 4 legs

Congratulations on your date!!! It will all start to feel real now! My surgery is in 13 days. I submitted my application to the surgeon's office the first week in January, and thought this day would never come. The time has really flown by, though, and now it is almost here!! I'll be having my preop appointment the day you have surgery!! Good luck, and post often!

Congratulations! I got my insurance approval today too.

I still can't believe it's really real..I keep checking the Tricare site to make sure the Approval status hasn't changed LOL.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
