Sleep Apnea study question

Recommended Posts

My surgeon recommended I have the sleep study done before they send my info to the insurance for approval on the LB surgery.

Well, I got a call today that I DO NOT have obstructive sleep apnea. Do you think I will still get approved for surgery, or did I just lose my 'golden ticket'??

Thanks in advance!

I am still only a little better then 1/2 way through my 6 months.. however I read a lot...there are many other things that would make you qualify with insurance for the surgery..such as your BMI 40 + is a qualifier...with nothing else...high cholestrol, H BP- diabetes...you really should speak with your primary care physician since they will be the one helping to support everything for your approval along with the surgeons office. I certainly would not discount your golden ticket...and I would try to attend a support group. They can be really informative of other peoples experiences. What is super important is to maintain your 6 months -- don't gain any weight..in that time...don't skip a month with your primary dr...or else you need to start all over again. I cannot tell you how many people I heard from in the support group that missed an appt and had to start all over again.

Good luck and don't give up!!!

Thanks Sandy for the response! I'm fortunate that I don't have to do that whole 6mo monitoring with the doctor. I do have over 3yrs of proof of my weight issues, so I'm able to go on the 'fast track'. Thank goodness! In fact seeing that my BIM is so high, plus being on blood pressure meds, plus having a family history of Type 2 Diabetes, and having gestational diabetes during both of my pregnancies...I think my insurance company would be idiots NOT to approve me.

Thank you again!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
