bambam 0 Posted April 21, 2010 Oh my, there are so many - but here are just a few! - Being able to go in a theater, etc., without wondering if I'll fit in the seats comfortably. - Going from a 3X to a L/XL and being able to shop in "regular" stores (although this is really overwhelming at this point. I really have no clue what stores to go in anymore - what stores are age appropriate for me, etc.) - Feeling I actually look somewhat "normal" - not wondering who is staring at me because of my size. - Being able to bend over to tie my shoes, etc. - Sitting with my legs crossed - so much easier! - Going on walks and hikes with my hubby without having to stop every 10 feet to breathe. I can even tackle the hills, etc. - Having my daughter say "OMG Mom - I've never seen you this "skinny!" - as she stood there with her jaw dropped). She lives across the country so it was about 9 months after my surgery before she saw me.
galiardi 0 Posted April 21, 2010 this is a good topic - thanks. mine, I used to count my steps, was always thinking I won't be able to walk to far. I walked over a mile yesterday - I couldn't believe it was me - my world suddenly opened up - it's wonderful!!!! I feel young again
Phranp 46 Posted April 21, 2010 It's good to think about NSVs ... I am so with you galiardi, I feel young again too!! It's great! I went to the doc yesterday and this is the first time in years that my bp has been in the normal range! I was so excited! I am wearing hand me down clothing that were too too small when they were given to me and now they are getting too big ... I was a size 26 when I started this journey and now I am wearing 18s that are getting too big! I put on a pair of pants this morning to wear to work and said "these pants weren't too long the last time I put them on" ... my hips are SHRINKING! It's amazing watching my pants get longer ... wow! I was wearing a 46DDD bra when I started this journey and now my 42DDs are getting too big! Even my feet are getting smaller! I park my car farther from the store entrance ON PURPOSE, so I can get more exercise. I ran into a friend that is taking night classes at the same college I am and we were walking to our cars one night. She said "I'm parked right here", I said I park up the stairs so I can get more exercise". She looked at me like I was crazy and we both laughed! We have known each other a long time so she KNOWS that is totally out of character for me. She was very happy for me though. NSVs are great. Thanks for starting this thread. I have more to be thankful for than just numbers on a scale.
vlp1968 83 Posted April 21, 2010 Going off my diebetes meds. was a huge NSV. Imade an appt. to get some bloodwork done. Maybe I can go off the blood pressure and cholesterol too! Clothes fitting that haven't fit in years is a great one too. I haven't needed to buy any clothes yet, despite a 67 pound weight reduction, since I had so many sizes in my closet. IAmJacksLapBand 5 Posted April 21, 2010 Thank you everyone for posting these. I am so happy for all of you. It is now 6 days until I joint to ranks of all you successful bandsters. On my blog months ago I posted my "wish list" of NSVs. I thought I would let the LBT community see what I am aiming for: 1) Walking into a regular clothing store and finding a new outfit for work (Big & Tall clothes are so expensive and they are cheaply made) 2) Traveling in Coach (It is great to fly Business Class but very expensive just because I cannot fit in a coach seat) 3) Riding roller coasters (I love thrill rides but often find myself waiting in line only to not have the restraint not fit my body) 4) Riding a bike (without worry of breaking it or running out of breath) 5) Not fearing the table at a restaurant (I never know if I will fit in the seat or booth. And if I do fit, I have to be careful not to break the chair when I move.) 6) Taking off my shirt when I go to the beach (It takes a long time to dry when you wear a shirt in the Water. And its hard to tan something that is covered up.) 7) A cheaper food bill (Not overindulging means cheaper food bills. When I go out I cannot wait to order from the children's menu and actually be satisfied.) 8) Not being afraid to exercise (As I mentioned above it is rough to put your body through its paces and then have it break because it cannot handle basic cardio and strength training.) 9) Riding a motorcycle (I want to be able to ride my own bike with my partner but most of them have weight limits of 400 lbs.) grumpys-wife 0 Posted April 21, 2010 Great NSVs! Last week I went to a spa and the girl handed me the standard robe NOT the Super Size one and it fit! No spa treatment could be better then the feeling I got from that.
gingerjane 5 Posted April 23, 2010 Whoo Hoo on everyone's NSVs! I got one today! I ran over to Macy's during lunch and had just ate, so I was a bit full, but tried on these pants that were a size 20. I have them in a 24, which is what I wore not just a month ago. Anyway, the 20's FIT. Zipped right up and buttoned!!! So, I bought them! I about fell over. I can't wait until I can say "Oh - these are a 14".
tanqueray 16 Posted April 23, 2010 Hmm...my biggest thing?? Wearing "normal" clothes!!! All my life since I was 16 I have been shopping in the women's size department. I too have been using thrift stores like crazy--it is the only way I am able to stay in clothing because my size keeps changing. I am going to a fancy event next Saturday and have decided to splurge on a new outfit. My biggest dilemna right now--I have NO idea where things are, besides the "women's department" in any of my local stores. I can wear a size 14 pant and large or extra large shirt. Since I have never shopped for these sizes, going through department stores is surreal and I am so lost. Sometimes I long for my "old" days when there was just one place to shop....Then I look in the mirror and realize I would not want to go back.

LOL I am a size 10 and I still keep finding myself in the plus size section of the store. When I realize it, I leave and go to the appropriate section, but after wandering around for awhile, I find myself back in the plus section again. It is really funny so I decide to laugh about it... I also have issues with too many choices so I hate big stores. I haven't been in a mall for 30 years because I am too overwhelmed with the millions of choices. Hugs!!! patsal 1 Posted April 23, 2010 I started out at CJ Banks today and hit the fitting room with my usual armload of clothing--the girls all know me by name in there I am there so much! Anyway, they didn't recognize me--its been over 50 pounds since I shopped! once we got going I found nothing in there that fit--only isze 16W pants but I've decided to wear the 18's until I fit comfortably into a 14--ie can breath after buttoning them! I ended up leaving there empty handed with an escort from the store to the Christopher and Banks store in the same mall. I ended up buying nothing, but the XL tops were too big, L fit beautifully, but we don't go on vacation until end of July so I am holding out in hopes of medium! Pants were a whole new issue, no W after the number! I still left them all in hopes of 14's. SO NSV's moving from 24/26 to 18's and larges fitting in the non handicapped lavatory when out fitting into the little seats in the HS auditorium when my DD has a Cello performance dropping two shoe sizes dropping from a 48DD to a 38 C I go to my reg Dr. in a few weeks and I can't wait to see my bloodwork numbers--hopefully by then I will be able to go off the cholesterol meds! bella71 0 Posted April 23, 2010 (edited) 1) Sitting in a strange chair without having to worry about whether I'll fit in it. 2) Being able to walk up the hill from the parking lot to the courthouse (and then up the courthouse steps!) without having to stop and rest. 3) Being able to use the elliptical machine without it constantly pausing, because I was going too slowly. 4) Baggy Clothes! 5) Looking in the mirror and seeing collar bones staring back. 6) Looking forward to the future with glee instead of dread.
