Good morning,

I got a fill yesterday and I'm doing the liquid diet afterwards now and I'm not sure if I'm too tight. I haven't been pb/sliming or throwing anything back up...but it just feels like the Water and Protein shakes are going down reaaaaally slowly.

Maybe I'm just psyching myself out since I'm not having any of the usual tightness symptoms...I'm just worried about when I move to solids if it's going to be a problem.

Those who have been too tight before, what did it feel like initially?

I appreciate your responses!

You're probably just swollen right now. As long as you're able to get Water down, I'd wait it out a day or so (my doc has us do liquids for 2-3 days, then one day of mushies before going back on regular solids). If you are unable to get your water or Protein Drinks down at any point, I'd call the doc ASAP.

When I was too tight, I got a pill stuck. That caused a vomit which led to swelling and consequently, a lot more vomiting. When I could keep Water down, it was time for an unfill, just to give myself time to heal. It's ok to feel the food/liquid in your stomach. If it starts to come back up, that's when you should get concerned.

A new fill when you are at good restriction, feels like what you are describing. You need to stay on liquids for the recommended amount of time then gradually add mushies then regular food. Very small bites and lots of chewing. I know you have heard this before but right after a fill, is when you need to be extra careful about this. I have been at my sweet spot for about 2 months now, and in the beginning, I had times that I wondered if I was too tight. I just had to remember to take it very easy. You do need to be able to eat food though, once you are past liquids and mushies. If you are unable to eat real food, you will need a slight unfill. It should loosen up a bit in a couple, maybe three or four weeks. That is why I stuck it out. I knew if I got an unfill, I would be wanting more put in, in a very short time. It has been perfect so far. Keep in mind that if you make a mistake and end up throwing up, go back to liquids again for at least 6 or 7 hours. Otherwise you get a chain reaction going and end up losing all of your meals. Best of luck, keep us posted!!! Hugs!!!

Thank you all for your responses!!

Everything seems okay so far, I've been taking it sloooow on adding solids, I'm still on liquids/mushies...nothing has gotten stuck but it still feels a little tight for me...as I've learned on this journey: BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!

LOL!

I'll probably try solids beginning of next week...maybe...if I feel like living life on the wild side ;-)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
