Can't burp and don't really vomit...stuck is painful!

Recommended Posts

I just wondered if there was anyone else in the same boat as me?

I can't burp or belch- I have never have been able to even after a pint of coca-cola! I hardly ever vomit and the last time I can remember must be about 10 years ago.

I got banded on 9.9.09 and am at good restriction.

My difficulty is when I get stuck - I really get stuck because the only way it can go is down.

Yesterday I had a Migraine and did not realise in time, and took medication a bit late so did not manage to abort it. In conseqence I was laid low and spend till 3pm in bed so did not get up to eat until the evening when I struggled and got stuck.

Usually I am tight in the morning and don't eat till lunchtime. A migraine tends to stop your stomach emptying, and this combined with the fact that I tried to eat only a few hours after I had got up, was probably why I was struggling.

Eventually after a lot of walking around, deep breaths, feeling sick, salivating, I kind of cough/retched and felt a bit better and then had strange noises of air coming up my gullet for a while, until I felt better.

Sometimes, I just wish I could burp!

I am in the exact same boat!

I've discovered that there really isn't a lot you can do. Walking around is good, as is taking off your bra (if you're at home, at least). I also found that if I hold my arms above my head, that works works well too.

It's terrible, isn't it?

I had another unpleasant experience tonight at dinner-time. I realised I was full but "soft signs" the odd hiccup, sighing, etc and so I put my fork down and had a rest. The feeling of fullness got worse and started to be painful and I realised I needed to walk around.

I went upstairs and into my bathroom, and, yes, off came everything! Right down to my knickers-bra off, trousers off, I even felt like I could take my necklace off...

The discomfort turned into pain and eventually I was salivating, in pain, and leaning over the basin... and then finally I retched a bit. Up came a bit of saliva/liquid-no food!

Eventually it settled down, but it was really horrible.

I think I need to really chew properly and really concentrate on this or maybe even go onto liquids for a bit.

I only had this fill a week ago and have had some good meals and some awful ones. But definitely feeling full and not hungry so not sure about a defill at this stage.

I am glad to know I am not alone, though.

I'm the same way. People think I'm strange because I don't burp - I just don't and can't really. I think I've burped about five times in my whole life and I'm almost 40! I also don't vomit much, a few times in the past 10 years maybe. I will feel nauseaus but never actually vomit. I suffer from Migraines too and they will make me nauseaus and I sleep them off! When I get stuck, it's horrible! I get that little bit of air and gurgling in my throat but I almost go into a panic attack because I can't relieve the pain and no matter what I do it doesn't get any better. I had a bad stuck episode about a month ago and experienced what sliming was. I don't ever want to do that again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
