Pain under ribs on left side

Recommended Posts

What could that be? it is not bad and not all the time. Just when I bend over to pick something up or lean on my desk. I started to notice it last night and thought maybe gas so I used two gax-x strips and it was still there this morning. I am sure that it is not a slipped stomach because I can eat just fine. No throwing up here. Any ideas of what it might be?

If you are recent post op the air they put into your abdomen to do the laparoscopy may not yet be absorbed. it can get under your diaphragm and cause discomfort. I am 5 weeks post op and recently did a little more activity and the left side port area is a little sore at times and i thought I just pulled a muscle in that area that i have been protecting for a month.Hope it gets better but call the office for info. The nurses are great, it may take a while for a call back.

I have a call into the office. Just waiting on a call back. I am kind of afraid to eat even though everything is going down ok. Just worried that if something is wrong that I don't want to make it worse by eating. I was banded on 3/25/10 and have not had gas pains since about a week after surgery so I never really thought about it being gas pain still.

The nurse called back and said that since my doctor actually sews the bottom stomach up over the band that it is more than likely an air bubble trapped between the band and my stomach. She said they see this often as patients start advancing their diets. She suggested using a heating pad on the side and Mylanta. I guess I know what I will be doing as soon as I get off work.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
