I'm three days out of surgery and very few complications, except one big one. My shoulder is driving me crazy. I walk around as suggested, try a little pillow rocking, all that, and nothing. During the day I'm taking Tylenol since I don't want to be groggy all the time, but look forward to the end of the day when the hydro carries me away on the wings of loopy dreams. But I want to figure out some sort of relief besides drugs. Any suggestions?

I am four days out, and I am not in pain in any of my incision areas, but man oh man, My shoulder is killing me!!! I swear there are times it feels like I am being stabbed in the shoulder!! I tried the heating pad, waking, gas-x, nothing is working, I hope you get an answer soon!!

Hi there, i totally understand your shoulder problem as i had the same thing really bad too and i hate to break it to you but i still suffer with it every now and then and my op was 8months ago. My suggestion is though a heat pack worked wonders for me just prop it up behind your shoulder and try to realax as much as possible.

I am 5 days post op and found that gas-x chewables were a huge help with shoulder and chest pain/fullness.

I'm 9 months post op and I used to get BAD BAD BAD shoulder pains. Now I still get them, not as bad, when I sit for longer than an hour. SOOOO weird...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
