Excess gas after all this time!

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had problems with gas after so long? I had my surgery in July last year. I have a problem eating veggies---I don't really like them. I love raw veggies and stir fry veggies. I have eaten them everyday this way since I could begin eating veggies after surgery. Now the past week I'm having really bad gas problems. I'm eating the same veggies I always have. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Has anything else changed?

Our bodies can and do change (for example, you can develop lactose intolerance after years of having no problem at all with dairy), but most often, when you have a sudden increase like this, it's due to change: foods (not just veggies), new meds, stress, adding the use of drinking straws back in, and so on.

Take a look at the big picture and see if there's something you hadn't thought of that's changed.

Have you tried Beano? It works great with Beans and veggies that give you gas. It comes in chewables and dissolvable strips. You eat it with your first bite of foodl It is all natural vegetable enzymes. Try it. You might like it.

I've had increased gas ever since surgery...I don't if it's the surgery but I didn't have this problem beforehand. I thought it was my sugar-free popsicles but I've cut them out for a period of time and while I noticed a decrease in gas after a few days I still had more gas than before surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
