United healthcare bandsters!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I am finally in the last few stages before setting my surgery date! I have United Health Care through my moms insurance (Sorry I don't know which coverage it is) and I was wondering from those of you who used UHC to get their band, how long did it take to receive approval once all of your information was submitted? I am not talking about the months of dieting and stuff they may require, all I would like to know is how long they will usually take to respond to a request? Thank you so much!

If anyone can help please post!

Caitlin

Caitlin you read my mind! I was wondering this too, since I have it through my job with the state. I called them, and they said that there was a 30-day "written response" period, so I assume about a month after the doctor sends in the information. hopefully that's a limit and not the norm but either way, I'll probably propose that 30 days as a buffer to schedule the procedure--at the most. I want to get this done as quickly as possible. But I do hope we get to hear from someone else w/ UHC about how long it took.

Hello! I have UHC and my surgery is scheduled for April 23 =) my paperwork went in on 3-25-10 and I had approval by 4-1-10. My coworker on the other hand got her approval in 3 days and we have the exact same insurance. I think it depends on who receives your file once it gets to UHC. Good luck!

I also have United Health Care. They approved me within three weeks. They have paid so well. I feel very blessed to have the insurance I do. I had a lot of health problems such as high blood pressure, pre-diabetic, high cholesterol, and foot problems. I was not what they called a 100lb overweight but with other health issues I didn't have a hard time getting approved for surgery.

Thank you everyone! For the most part it seems like UHC approved rather quickly which is great!I'm keeping my fingers crossed:)

I was denied by UHC because I didn't have medical insurance in 2008 so I didnt' see a physician. However, UHC encouraged me to wait until 2011. It took me about a week for this decision. UHC is really quick about it so you may have some results by the end of the week.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
