I'm feeling depressed.

Recommended Posts

I really hate complaining, but I have to get this off of my chest.

I'm a week and a half post-op. I am scared of my lap band. I'm scared it's fragile. I'm scared I'm going to mess it up. I'm scared that it's already messed up. I'm scared that I over stuffed myself and popped a stitch or whatever. I have issues!

I've been really full a couple of times, and I fear that I have already messed it up.

Anyone with advice? (Besides seeing a therapist, lol)

Just relax..I really doubt you have done anything to it...try to stick to the post op diet as it is very important. The lapband works, but gradually, as you get tighter with more fills. So in the beginning you are going to be able to eat a lot....which sucks...but just be patient.

You're going to be ok. Even though this website is filled with stories of things that can go wrong, they rarely do. Follow your post-op eating plan and you will heal properly. After you are healed, your band doesn't slip or stretch every time you do something wrong. It's pretty darn flexible or you would never see all the success stories you read on here.

Don't agonize over every little thing. You will get used to this. You will do fine and your band will help you get there.

Thanks everyone. I do feel better. I have a lot of things going on in my life, and change is really hard to deal with on top of everything being stressful. No matter how prepared you are for this surgery, there are things that you will always be unprepared for... like emotions.

I totally agree with what everyone has said so far. You are more than likely just fine....however, be sure and follow whatever guidelines YOUR doctor has given you. I remeber being a little "freaked" out about every little thing in the beginning, but in time you will become very comfortable with your new band and your new lifestyle. Welcome to the rest of your life!! :)

I got banded on Thursday April 15, 2010 and I am feeling a bit depressed too so your not crazy. I woke up regretting doing this to myself, but I know that it will be so worth it in the end. I already lost 11 lbs.You just have to get over this hump and know that everything will be okay. I hope I helped.:)

Thinking about you guys. It is a scary thing to make a big change. Take care of yourselves, friends. If you are feeling down, try not to let it overwhelm you.

Just want you to know that I felt the EXACT same way when I got my band 3 years ago. I was totally convinced that I was going to get it taken out - I really freaked out. I kept thinking that I had broke it and it was off floating free in my body! LOL After some time, I settled into the routine of things and it started to feel normal to have it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
