Scared to get a deflate again but I may have to

Recommended Posts

Okay here's my background info.

I had surgery in nov 2008 and I had my first fill in dec 2008 to 7cc. I did okay with it until about july 2009. I have really bad sinus infections so I have a lot of flem all the time.(sorry to gorss anyone out) It started out as occasionally I would throw up solid food. Then I started throwing up thicker liquids like Protein Shakes or yogurt. Then I was throwing up no matter what and even Water would gurgle down. I went down to 126 lbs and I felt horrible. I looked cute for a high school girl but I am grown woman with a child and that was too skinny. My goal is actually 135-145 lbs. I went to see my doctor in Sept 2009.

They looked at my stomach under the x-ray and saw that my pouch was inflamed or swollen. He had never come

across that situation but he opened me up 2cc which dropped me down to 5 cc filled. I immediately felt the difference ans such relief. Well over the holidays and what not I gained 30 lbs. Got up to 156 lbs and climbing. I was getting frustrated. I wen tback in Feb 2010 to get a fill. My doc wanted to prevent the issue that had happned from occuring again. He only filled me up 1.5 cc this time in hopes that the same thing would not happne again. Well it is and I having extra symptons I did not have before. I am getting some type of acid reflux to where I am woken up in the night with the reflux inmy throat. I have an appt on wed April 21 but I am scared he will open me up to a 5 again and then my weight will go crazy again. Anyone been through this before or any advice?

He can just take out .5. I was too tight and had just a little taken out and it made all the difference in the world, I would suggest to get a little taken out before you get to the point of being inflamed. Don't wait too long.

I am making a leap that you have a 10cc band. I am with Leigha, a slight unfill can make a HUGE difference.

My surgeon speaks as to how when you get more fill in the band, smaller amounts of fill then make bigger differences.

If you were to remove .5 or even 1.0 you'd still have more than you had when you were gaining. It might be enough to give you the restriction you need without being too loose.

Think about when you put a belt around your waist. On its loosest setting you have to pull it in several holes to reach your skin. Once there, it only takes one hole to start pinching you. Sometimes you have to poke a hole in between to be comfortable.

Are you on any type of acid blockers? You might ask about using them temporarily until things calm down.

I hope things work out for you and things settle down! I am wondering if when your sinuses flare up, if you could not go in for a slight unfill, then refill when cleared? It might happen too often for that to be practical, but just a thought from the outside looking in.

Thanks guys for your input. I was hoping that he would take out just the .5 and yes I do have a 10 cc band. The low profile one. When I lost all that weight you could see my port sticking out and it was gross!! I didn't think I could get too skinny but you can. Funny thing is that 125 was my original goal weight until got down to it and I saw how gross I looked. I am comfortable where I am at now which I am at 141 but wouldn't about 5 lbs less. I just don't want to get any bigger. Thanks everyone for your responses they made me feel a lot better. I was actually starting to get bummed. But now I am not!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
