A time for rebirth....Spring and Me

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am writing from Alaska, where I am seeing Spring finally arrive. With Spring comes my desire for a healthier me. I have started the process towards LapBand, I am hoping to have the procedure done no later than late July. I have to travel 400 miles to see the Dr., same for the procedure. His office is working with me to complete as many tests (in my hometown, with my local Dr.) as I need prior to the LapBand. I will have to make a few trips to his locale before he operates. Most people would be excited as they could go shopping but hey, I'm saving that for after I've reached my goal. Gee, I have many sizes of clothing in my closet and dresser to get me closer to that goal without having to shop.

I am very excited, I have been working towards this change since last year, after many challenges met, I am able to do so. I have a huge support group in my husband, son, my friends, in-laws, co-workers and boss. One of my friends, she needs to lose only about 40 pounds, said that she will do the "liquid diet with me"....while she is with me! Now that's a great friend!

Anyhow, I am excited. I go for the Orientation, bloodwork, support group meetings, 1:1 with Dr. on the 28th....at that time I hope to have an idea when I get the LapBand.

Hooray for Me!

Hooray for all of us!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
