Short Term Disability

Recommended Posts

Hi - I am new and just got my date, so I have and will be posting a bunch of questions - I hope you all don't get sick of them.

Has anyone taken STD for this procedure? I first thtought I heard you can go back to work 3-5 days later - but my Dr said that they say 4-6 weeks to make it easier but I can go back soon like the 3-5 days? So has anyone used STD or how long have most of you been out after you were banded?

Thanks

I was out for 1 week - I could have gone back to work sooner, but there was a weekend and a holiday involved. Do you have a physical job?

That's not bad! I sit at a desk most of the time - some times there is lifting! thanks for the info.

I felt awesome a week out - I think 4-6 weeks is overkill.

Hi Stacey -

My doctor said that I could go back to work when I felt up to it as well. However, I want time to adjust to the band, and could really use a break so I requested 2 weeks off.

I am using 7 sick days and 3 vacation days. At my company, STD is not an option until you have missed 11 work days.

My doctor gave me 4 weeks off and I used STD for some. I was better by week 3 but enjoyed the extra recup time as I'm on my feet at work and do heavy lifting:tt2:.

My job does not require heavy lifting, but I was told two weeks. When I went in for my post op appt at day 11, I told them I had already gone back to work. I had surgery on a Friday and I believe I could have gone back on Wednesday--by then I had stopped taking my pain meds. I was too sleepy on the pain meds or I could have gone back sooner. It didn't matter though as I had the whole week off for February break, so I used one sick day on the day of surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
