Stuck Episode..OMG!!

Recommended Posts

I have been banded since January 2010, I have had 3 fills so far. I went to have a piece of french bread tonight..(i know bread) and it got stuck! OMG what pain, I have never had anything hurt as bad as this. I had slime come up and after a few mouthfuls of spit I felt better but felt exhausted. I thought I was dying it hurt so bad, I hope it never happens again and wouldn't wish it on anyone! All I can say is make sure to chew well because you don't want this to happen to you. I learned my lesson!!!! I will back to liquids and mushys for a few days..

When I was only 3 to 4 months out, I could still eat anything. pizza, bread, anything! Then I started to get more and more restricted. Now I am 1 year and 1/2 out and 75% of the things I could eat then are out.

I can sometimes handle a piece of very dry thin bread like rye, but I dont think I could finish one slice.

I hate to say it, but you will get stuck again, and your right, it hurts! I am to the point now where instead of extreme pain, its like of a stomach ache.

I get stuck every now and then and it is VERY painful for me. If Im eating with my family, they can tell by looking at my face that Im stuck. Sometimes if I just get up and walk around a little it relieves it and the food goes through.

Nothing will cure you from a bread addiction faster than the lapband. My first really bad stuck episode was w/a dinner roll. I have barely touched bread since then. Usually, I'm just not tempted, but occasionally if it looks like really really good bread, I will break off the tiniest piece and just nibble at it.

Do y'all have trouble with something like thin toasted wheat bread on a sandwich?

I'm going for my third fill on Thursday, and I have already weaned myself off most bread, because I know it will become problematic, but I do like to have some egg salad on toasted wheat bread. It's not a problem now, but I can guess that it may be.

@weightogo- At just 16 days you have no restriction. Things won't get stuck until you start getting fills and get some restriction. You should be on mushy foods at this point anyway so be careful.

At 16 days I could eat anything, I just got my 2nd fill, for a total of 5.6cc and still don't have much restriction.

I got my first fill last week and boy has it been a process. I can tell a dramatic difference. It is definitely a learning process. My doc said if I have that "stuck" feeling for 4 or more hours to call. It usually doesn't last more than 15-20 minutes but boy are those miserable minutes. A friend of mine told me to get baby spoons and forks. I thought that was silly but it has really helped. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
