unexplained port pain!

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

Just wondering if anyone has experience with a hurt port... I was loading large bags of soil yesterday and believe I might have done something to my port... I have a sensation of being pinched actually underneath of the port and a burning in the area around it... have an appt today at 1pm with the dr but just wondering if anyone's experienced anything like this... I'm a year and half out and more then 100pounds down and never had severe port pain like this before... thanks

I was just wincing in pain, too, from port pain, only thing is I wasn't slinging around big bags like you....I haven't a clue how I pulled that muscle. Please let us know what the doctor said.

I was just reading today in Dr. Sewell's book about living with the band that redness and/or swelling around the port can be signs of more serious trouble with the band itself. I would call my doctor and get it checked out. Good luck.

Got my answer...in my soil slinging fury LOL I flipped my port... Somehow the way I twisted I managed to pull a few of the stiches right out of the fascia/muscle... however on the bright side...my dr is amazing, he had me in the O.R. within an hour and I was home with a port revision completed by 6pm! And I got to upgrade ports...my doc just got in the new lower profile ports, about half the size of the old ones...so he put that in with some surgical mesh...so I can't flip it again playing super hero gardening girl!

Well, Megs, you sure do put everything into doing a job!!! I am glad you have a great doctor and everything went well. May I ask where the port is? I am going to get mine moved and replaced with a low profile, but don't know where to put it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
